We're having a small wedding. Around 50ish guests including the bridal party. Up to 60ish tops. The place we're renting can comfortably seat twice as much as we need. While that's great, I'm not sure what to do with the extra space. I don't want to run up a huge bill trying to fill it and make it not look so empty. Its a community center so we're blessed for it being the most inexpensive venue in the area which is why we don't want a smaller place. Any ideas on inexpensive, classy, space filling decor?

Our venue holds up to 250 and is several rooms. Leave plenty of room between tables. We have rounds and for each 8 people we need one table that takes up about 6 to 8 feet of space with being able to pull chairs back.

Use round tables, and put 8 people at a table. Your guests get space, but it won't feel like they are alone. You can space out the tables to take up some of the sapce.

I'd use some sort of divider. Fake trees are a good option. Big dividers (lattice?) would be good too. A large section for the buffet and lines takes up lots of space!

A couch area is great, but the logistics can be difficult to pull off. You'll have to move it in and move it out the same day. They can be rented, but they aren't really budget friendly.

Space your tables out and put them on an angle, it wil take up more space and add visual interest. You could also double the tables so each one would be more like a square to take up more space and give your guests a little more room on the table top. Hanging some decorations from the rafters like lanterns, balloon decor, etc. would also fill the space nicely.

I love the idea of a lounge area! That would be a great way to take up space. I think rounds spread really far apart will help also.

I would space the tales out more and seat a few less at the tables to add tables, this will give your guests breathing room and take ups some space. That would also leave plenty of room for the dance floor which can be crowded. space out the DJ and cake display. the added space can be a blessing, because I have seen a lot of crowed places for weddings.

    BEAUTIFUL place by the way!

Another idea that might make it feel less awkward is to use the middle of the space for everything. I don't know if this makes sense, but instead of using one wall as the starting point of the layout, move everything more to the middle of the room. Like in the picture of the other wedding, the focal point of the space is the head table up against the windows. If you moved the head table 20-30 feet away from the window, and had the guest tables more in the center of the room, it may not feel as awkward.

    Very pretty space.

Could you do trees with twinkle lights to fill up the space?

maybe rent some lounge space furniture from a local rental place. David T does the lounge areas all the time and it looks so cool to be able to sit somewhere other than your table!
