Reception timeline help

Danielle, on March 30, 2020 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

So our ceremony is set for 5:30 and we are having a few pictures of just us after (we are taking pictures before) so we are expecting to be announced at 6:20. Post ceremony to announcement we are having a bar and allowing guests to get food (buffet style setup). We have to leave the venue at 10. My question is....how does it look?

I don’t know if it matters but we will have a photo booth setup. Should I leave it open the whole time or just after the dances? Thanks guys!

Are you not planning for you and your wedding party to eat?

I don’t have a set time for it. Just figured everyone would just grab a plate when they want since it’s buffet style finger foods anyway. We will have food together while getting ready.

Is your ceremony and reception in the same location? If not 6:20 seems really quick if you have a 5:30 ceremony. Are you having a cocktail hour? What time is dinner open? I would make sure those times are in tour timeline so your coordinator and or DJ can help with those.

Same location. There will be time before for cocktails and for guests to eat.

If you’re having an evening reception, you should provide an entire meal for your guests and you should schedule a time for people, yourself included, to eat.

How long do you think your ceremony is going to last? if it's just gonna be a ten minute ceremony then i think it'd be nice having the photobooth set up then so people could have it while they wait

It looks about the same as the venue I’m getting married at and this is the timeline they follow for every wedding. So I’d say it looks pretty perfect ☺️

You definitely need to build some time in for you and the wedding party to eat or you’re going to be starving. Once our guests were done eating, we didn’t sit down again until we got in the car to go home.

I completely agree. I don't think it is right to say you will have food when getting ready. You need to have three meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. We bought breakfast and lunch for our bridal party in addition to the food that was served during the reception. Our wedding was buffet style. We were announced into the ballroom at approximately 6:15 then we had our first dance, then speeches and a pray, then dinner. Dinner ended at approximately 7:30 then we had cake cutting. Dancing started at approximately 8:00. I think you need to reconsider your timeline in order to properly allot time for your bridal party and yourself to eat. Since you are having your reception at dinner time, you also need to serve a full meal not just finger foods. We also had a photobooth. Our cocktail hour was in a separate space than the reception so the photobooth opened as soon as people were let into the ballroom and remained open the rest of the evening.

I think you need to have a set time scheduled for guests to eat dinner, and to make sure to provide something more substantial than finger foods since your wedding is prime dinner time.
