Reception or after ceremony activity

Nikki, on March 11, 2017 at 2:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

I'm needing help and was wondering if anyone else already has some of this information or just good advice. My FH family and mine are quite different we have a mix of academics and farmers. My dads side is the type to just show up no RSVP and he's one of 13 kids and I have 50+ first cousins on that side alone.

I've been working on trying to get a count and figure out if we want to do a reception in Las Vegas too or just come up with something type of post ceremony activity. Like maybe just a meal or a pool side suit where we serve cake? Or maybe a full reception. Problem being I really don't want to spend more than 2000 for a reception and I don't want to have a location off strip unless I have transportation lined up.

Just overwhelmed between planning our wedding and finishing up nursing school. Sorry for the rambling but I'm not really sure what direction to go and I expect some where between 60-100 guests easily.

Full reception would be costly in Vegas. I'm guessing transportation may be a hefty bill also. Depending on your time for the reception pool side suite with cake would be a great option. Have you looked into what the hotel or venue has to offer? Is there a wedding package that you could do? Just something to think about. Good luck and Congrats.

You know your family best. Do they typically show up to events? 50 first cousins each with a date puts you at 100 guests.... If your on a $2000 budget I'd scope out options other then a full reception.

You really are past the luxury of the "figuring out stage". Your wedding is in 84 days (twelve weeks). This should all be planned by now.

I know you mentioned farmers and academics, but what caught my eye is your budget. Are you trying to figure out how to host 60 - 100 guests (easily) on the LV strip with a budget of $2K? I think you can safely assume that the full reception is out. As for a full meal and the rental of the space, I don't see that happening either. Add transportation to the mix and your budget is completely blown.

Honestly, I'd go with the pool side/cake reception. How much will you be charged, PP, to do something like that? Is there an alcohol budget? You have to remember, if you're going the dessert/punch route, it's unlikely that people will travel to attend such an event.

Have you considered having a small, immediate family-only LV wedding followed by a dinner reception. That you might be able to pull off -- maybe. Maybe you should consider hosting a very laid back party in honor of your marriage -- in somebody's back yard -- after you're married. It's the best I can think of. However, whatever you plan, you've got to finalize it ASAP.

Food and alcohol. However, like pp mentioned above, this should have been figured out by now. You should be getting ready to send out invites in the next couple of weeks.

If you were to provide transportation for your guests to an off strip location; for 100 people it's going to run you **** alone.

Just an FYI to keep in mind Smiley smile

I can't tell from the original post if this is meant to be a DW or if you guys are locals. If local, check out off-strip alternatives. Sunset Gardens is very pretty.

Is this a DW, or are your guests local to Vegas?

If you're local, I think cake and punch or something else casual is fine.

If your guests have traveled, you need to provide a full meal. I feel like the more money and time you ask people to spend to attend your wedding, the more you should provide for them as a thank you.

Your budget seems kind of small for a full reception in Vegas. I would probably invite immediate family only, so you don't have to worry about cousins and aunts/uncles not RSVPing and still showing up, and take your family out to a nice restaurant afterwards.

It is a DW and a mention the family side backgrounds because one side won't bother RSVPing and if they know the date alone they are likely to just show up in the area anyways. The problem being both sides of my family do consider imitate family to include aunts, uncles and cousins. My dads side of the family are mainly farmers and they have a wild streak. For example my last cousin on that side to get married told everyone two weeks before her wedding and she still had just under 100 show up from both sides.

We set our date and got our ceremony scheduled two weeks ago. And have been engaged for three weeks.

Iv been leaning more towards a poolside reception so there is room to mingle. I won't be providing alcohol on my dad's side most weddings are BYOA since no one drinks the same stuff and they are big drinkers.

Also I know my budget will expand some but I don't know by how much. My parents have said they will help pay for some and I have not counted that into my 5k budget.

How are you just thinking about this? Your wedding is in 2.5 months....

For 2000.00, you do a pretty local restaurant with 10 guests. With wine.

I can't even unpack this because it's just a festival of awful ideas.

You need to provide alcohol. The reception is for your guests and you need to feed them and provide alcohol especially if this is a destination wedding.

I mean, this is not going to happen for that price. Maybe you should look at eloping, and having a nice dinner with your new husband. That seems like it would come in at about $2k.

Lower your guest count. It's just not possible. IMO if your guests are traveling to Vegas you should offer them more than a cake and champagne reception. Mine is only slightly off strip and for 50 people the wedding and reception before dress and traveling etc is 12,000. Pool side cabana receptions are for like 15 people max. This is all just a google search away bc Vegas venues list ALL of their info online.

ETA: Every Vegas package I've looked at is also subject to their 8.5% Nevada tax and a 21-25% service fee. You can feed about 6 people with your budget IF that's a reception only budget.

Vegas has some cool elopement packages in your price range! Like get married on a roller coaster or in an aquarium or in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon.

I agree with many others that you are working with an awfully tight budget. I researched online at many places for ceremony options and we ultimately settled on the Tropicana because it was super budget friendly, the package includes a lot more than other venues and will allow us to spend more money on dinner and group activities. That being said, I did not look into a reception only option but I would say it is definitely worth a shot if there is any wiggle room with the budget. If this is a DW I do think it is important to do something for the guests that will be traveling to celebrate with you. Good Luck!
