Reception Ideas that do not include dancing

Vanessa, on April 24, 2021 at 6:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Hey! My fiance and I don't dance, nor does most of our family so there will be no DJ but we will have music playing over a couple of speakers throughout the day. I was thinking of doing the cocktail hour, then go right into dinner, then speeches. After that, it would be another social hour(s) until people head out. I feel like this isn't enough. We will have between 60-70 people at a hotel. Will be a cash bar as well as not many drink in our family.

Generally when there is no dancing, guests will mingle for a couple hours max and then head out. No one is bored by that either.

I’ve been to several weddings (including mine) that didn’t have dancing. Cocktail hour, dinner, dessert and nice background music is enough. But active food stations are fun, interactive and practical. Like a pasta station for dinner, or fancy coffee/tea bar with dessert.

We are having a similar reception. I am consider games (shoe game, trivia) after speeches. We’re also serving pre-ceremony cocktails & having a cocktail hr after the ceremony & of course an open bar. By the time dinner is over, no one will realize there is no dance floor.

We didn’t have dancing, and had a similar number of guests—we had a cocktail hour and a half with stations to encourage mingling and then moved to a different space for the dinner reception, which started off with about 15 minutes of speeches, then dinner for about 2.5 hours. No games or entertainment beyond a violinist and surprise parrot at cocktail hour and background music from speakers during dinner.
