Reception games

We are having an outside fall reception. More of the cookout/relaxed style vs dance party. How cheesy are yard games at a reception?

We plan on having games! We've only invited 70 people to our destination wedding and it will definitely be more casual. I say if you think your crowd will enjoy it then go for it!

Totally agree with PP, if your vibe is more casual and you think your crowd would enjoy it - go for it! I love yard games and it's definitely memorable. Plus there is more opportunity to make the games more unique to you Smiley smile

I love the idea of lawn games and plan to have some during my cocktail hour (outdoors), plus a table of board/card games during the reception (indoors). I don’t think it’s corny or anything like that—some people just aren’t super into dancing or chatting, and this gives them something to do so they can still enjoy themselves.

We are having corn hole, bocce, Giant Jenga, ladder ball and badminton. Ours is a very casual event.

Yard games can be fun for guests! I wouldn't go overboard and do too many, but i went to a wedding where they had giant Jenga and that was fun. They also had cricut too! I think it's a fun idea as long as you don't have too many and they're tasteful.

I had a backyard wedding, and I had jump ropes, hula hoops, frisbees and play balls for anyone who wanted them. The kids really enjoyed it!

My venue is on a lot of land so i figured it would be fun to have some yard games to keep guests occupied, especially during cocktail hour! We plan on having giant jenga and cornhole for sure

If we had an outdoor wedding we would have done lawn games. We had an indoor wedding however, so instead we had playing cards and Yahtzee on the tables for everyone while we were off taking our pictures. Each pack of cards were wrapped with a personalized logo that said our names as well as personalization on the Yahtzee score cards Smiley smile
