Reception format

Janet, on June 26, 2012 at 12:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Would love to hear folks' feedback on the format/flow of their reception. We are having a cocktail hour, dinner, cake cutting and dancing and need to figure out when to plug in parents, best man/maid of honor toasts and toasts from our close friends. We have many close friends who we think may want to say something so trying to figure out how to make time for that and not to have the toasts drag on and on (or have someone feel like they didn't want to say something b/c others have already said something). Thoughts? Would just love to here how people are managing flow of the evening. We'll go from 5:15-11PM and a DJ will manage the flow but need to give him/her direction.

We had a plated dinner and the toasts were made between courses.

At the weddings I've been to the toasts were done during dinner. It was nice because you weren't sitting around after dinner listening to toasts when you could be dancing and getting the real party started.

We are having toasts between dinner and cake, so everyone can digest a bit before eating cake Smiley smile

One idea to help divide the toasts, during our ceremony we are asking if anyone would like to say any words in support of our marriage. We are letting a few people know about this ahead of time so there won't just be crickets, but a few others may chime in.
