Reception Entrees

Jaclyn, on January 20, 2022 at 12:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 2 7

Hi all,

I am struggling with our reception entrée choices. We have 5 options and can choose 3 to offer to our guests. 2 are chicken, 1 is beef (extra cost), 1 is pork chop and 1 is fish (extra cost). We are pretty sold on the beef and 1 chicken, but I am torn between the pork chop and fish. The issue is that the beef and fish have additional costs associated with them. So we were given 5 options, but 2 cost extra. The beef is already costing us more and I am afraid to add the fish as well for another cost. Do we need a fish option? Or can I get away with beef, chicken and pork chop? We'd of course make accommodations for vegetarians and allergies.

Thanks!

I think you can get away with the pork. Unless you have a lot of religious guests who can’t eat pork, or you know a majority of your guests would choose fish, I think chicken, beef and pork are good options.

What specifically are the individual options? It’s customary and encouraged to not list the specific type/preparation but guests do need and want that information on the reply card to make a more informed choice. Is the beef prime rib or short ribs or something else? Is the chicken a boneless breast, a bone in thigh and what kind of sauce goes on it? Fish and pork are polarizing so unless you know with 100% certainty that your crowd enjoys them, those are best to skip. Fish is avoided due to its smell and texture and pork is avoided in a number of religions and cultures.

You can never go wrong with beef and chicken. Just because they offer 3 choices doesn’t mean you need to use them all. Go with 2 styles of chicken.

I agree with PP, I would just go with beef and chicken. If 3 costs the same as 2, I'd go with pork or even a second chicken option. 99% of guests will be fine with that.

Veggie options are available upon request. They are not listed in the original offerings - just the 5 meat options. I reached out to see if there was an extra cost for swapping one out or how that would work for those with dietary restrictions.

I'm curious about the specific dishes. Did you take them? Which ones did you like best?
If the pork chop wasn't amazing, you should skip it.
If the 2 chicken dishes are wildly different, just go with those. If the wedding is in a port city where the local seafood is fresh and amazing, then go with the fish. If not, you can skip it.

Perfect. I think you’re good with chicken & beef options then!
