Reception entrance dance with bridal party or no? Is this still a thing?

I've been wanting to do a grand entrance reception dance with my whole bridal party but I'm catching a lot of flack from my bridesmaids. I'm just wondering if doing this is still popular or should I just give it up because it's now considered lame?

Lauren, if your dream day involves making all of your bridal party uncomfortable, I'm glad I'm not in your wedding.

Renee, what do you mean by "they accept all that comes with it"?

If you're getting pushback from your BM's they're obviously not comfortable. This is really hard to do well and as a former dancer I cringe. The only way that would look good to me is with a choreographer and pro dancers.

I'm a bridesmaid as well and I would be awkward and uncomfortable doing a big dance

With just you and your FH, yes.

    With the entire BP? No.

My MOH does want an entrance and she has a song already she knows she wants to do. Haven't bothered to ask the best man yet as it is so soon, but we will leave it up to him if this is what he wants to do. Mom wants to do one and I know my Dad will b/c he loves the spotlight.

Agree with others that if they don't want to do it, then don't do it.

Renee, being a BM doesn't come with 'tasks". (accepts)

I have seen several of these, and they always look forced and weird.

    Let it go.

I've been in a wedding where the WP was introduced 2-3 at a time before the bride and groom were introduced and I've been in a wedding were the WP wasn't introduced at all.

For the one where we were introduced, we weren't expected to dance. We just had to walk down a staircase and smile. I've definitely seen them done where the WP danced or did something funny. It's only good if the BMs and GM are into it. If they're excited to do it, they'll have fun and your guests will enjoy the intros. If your WP members aren't thrilled about the idea, it will be awkward and your guests won't enjoy it. If your BMs aren't comfortable with the idea, it might be best just to do a grand entrance with just you and FH.

If your wedding party is not into it, it's going to look really awkward and forced and lame. It would be a totally different story if all your BMs and GM went to school for musical theater and loved to be in the spotlight and were amazing at singing and dancing. lol

I really appreciate everyone's feedback. Thank you for taking the time to give your opinions. As I stated in a reply post earlier I have resigned to the idea because the last thing I want is to make my WP uncomfortable. And when I stated that accepting to be a bridesmaid means accepting requests from the bride, I meant that they should be here for me and help me. With that said, my original question was meant as an inquiry on what everyone is doing these days for their entrance and if they are doing a dance like the many videos I've seen on the Internet. I really don't understand why some feel the need to reply with ugly comments. I am not out to make anyone uncomfortable and I am trying to make my reception what I envision but having to make changes due to lack of willingness to participate. And also, just know that the dance is just meant to be silly and fun and not require professional dance skills. I am not a professional dancer and would be in the same boat but I think it would be fun. So anyway. Thanks again. Smiley smile

I would talk to your DJ (assuming you have one) and see what they think... We are doing a fun entrance (top gun themed) where the party is announced. All of them will have aviators and the song is danger zone. Then FH are coming into take my breath away Smiley smile thought of this idea myself... Cute right?? Haha But I didn't want to do a bridal party "dance" but my DJ recommended getting the party out for about 30 seconds to dance then have all of them go find another guest to dance with for 20-30 seconds then all of those people grab someone (etc etc) until everyone is dancing. He really recommended it because it sets the tone for the party part and gets everyone in the mood. We are going with it. It might work for you too and solve the awkwardness it will be for your wedding party. Smiley smile

This is the one cultural thing I'm doing at my wedding. West Africans at least in my country do a grand entrance dance with the wedding party. We get really into it. My BP is excited about it, we're going have a lot of fun with it, but if your BP doesn't want to do it don't make them it can be really uncomfortable and awkward for some people.

I was a bm in a friends wedding a few years ago when those weird Harlem Shake videos were popular. We had to do it and I felt so awkward, especially since I was pregnant and couldn't even have a few drinks beforehand. If your bridal party is uncomfortable with it then I wouldn't do it.

I was asked to do this in 2 weddings. The first one we had to do the gangnam style dance and it was awkward AF because I am Korean and EVERYONE ELSE at the wedding was white... The second time I skipped the dancing part and just walked straight to my seat at the head table when my name was called because I think it is so embarrassing.

We will not be doing this at ours.

ETA - OP you are so very sweet to consider your bridal party in making this decision. Some people have anxiety and this would be a very frightening and embarrassing thing for them.

Yes I want to do this ,but have our bridal party team up with their escort they'll need to agree on a song and a 1-2minute dance entrance. ..

I Envision it to be good laughter and so much fun ... much fun

I agree with everyone else. The only thing to complement how awful it would be for your wedding party would be staged photos where you pretend there's a T-Rex killing the ring bear and acting shocked and grossed out the bride and groom are kissing.

I'm currently a bridesmaid in a wedding party where the bride is making us do this... it's a complete embarrassment and I really feel like even as I guest I wouldn't enjoy it. I would roll my eyes, and double fist cocktails through the whole thing. To me it just seems like a grand "look at me" gesture.

It shouldn't of ever been a "thing".

Its a wedding not a talent show.

Well you don't have to do everyone at they same time. You can have the each BM & GM pick a song together (last only 2-3 as onds) and when they walk out you introduce them and move on to the next BM & GM. After the BP is introduced you do the B & G and then you get down to the festivities. Lol. It's literly doesn't even last that long.
