Reception dress

Kelsey, on July 20, 2019 at 3:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28
Is anyone getting a dress to change into during the reception? I wasn’t thinking about getting one but my friend who recently got married strongly suggested I do because it gets really hot in a wedding dress. I was thinking about getting this just in case but I don’t want to waste money if I won’t actually end up using it! This is my wedding dress as well. Please help 😅

I am! I am changing into this dress so that I can dance and enjoy myself without drowning in tulle and lace!

I bought one and didn’t end up changing because I wanted to stay in my dress. Luckily for me my wedding dress was lightweight.

I'm not changing - I love my dress and want to keep it on as long as possible. After all, I only get to wear it once! So this is really up to personal preference Smiley smile

Comfort and ease of movement were huge in my dress choice, so I'm not switching. Plus, my dress is light and airy and I love it too much to switch it.

I will only be wearing my wedding dress as this is the last time I will ever wear one and it was so dang expensive I'm gonna wear it till we get to the hotel after the wedding and you never know, I might just put that dress back on for breakfast LOL

I bought an inexpensive second dress on amazon just in case I get too hot in my wedding dress. If I end up changing, I want to try and stay in my wedding dress until after dinner and the cake cutting. That way I’ll have worn it at least half of the night

I completely understand those who frown upon changing dresses because the dress is already expensive and you only wear it once. However, it is REALLY important to think about how comfortable you will be during your night. I personally swear profusely! I also want to look my most beautiful in a ball gown. Even trying on ball gown dresses, I was really hot and sweaty. So I opted to purchase a light fitted dress for the reception and a ball gown overskirt for the ceremony and pictures. Yes, it cost me a lot of money, as much as 2 dresses. But I do not want people looking at me sweating all night nor do I want to ruin my hair, makeup and reception photos. I say all that to say do what makes you comfortable within your budget!

I’ve thought about doing something like this. My FHs only comment about the dress is he doesn’t want anything “too poofy” because he thinks we’ll trip dancing (likely, lol!). Everyone kept leading me toward ball gowns at my first appt, which I felt princessy and beautiful in, but I went in really wanting a fit and flare silhouette to show off my curves and the only one I found wasn’t my taste. I’m hoping to find the right dress at my appt this week, but a removable skirt is the best of both.
To the OP, we’re having a fall outdoor evening ceremony and reception in the mountains, so I’m not concerned about getting hot, but I am concerned about tearing up my dress since it’s a mountainous area. I would set a dress budget and keep both dresses within that budget. Maybe look for something on clearance, a sample sale, or a pre-worn dress if you want a second wedding dress, otherwise you could always find a cute white dress (or outfit- I saw a wedding album where the bride changed into a white jumpsuit that was really cute) you love and can wear again. Good luck!

I thought about it but decided not to. I'm going to wear my wedding dress as long as I am comfortable and if I feel like changing I'll just put my bridal shirt on with some capris or something later in the evening.

I went back and forth about it, but ultimately decided against it because I ADORE my dress too much and I don’t want to take the time away to change honestly.

I did have a couple of layers of crinoline removed from my satin A-line though just to kind of lighten the load of the dress.

I thought about it, but October isn’t usually too hot. Plus I got an A-line dress so there isn’t too much poof. I will have another dress after the wedding, when we go to the hotel bar.

No way! I'm only getting to wear a wedding dress once I'm staying in it. I really don't like the idea of changing out of your wedding dress, but that's just me. It's like tops 8 hours in the dress. And when would you change? Do you really want to step away from your reception to change? Plus my mom bought my dress so it would be pretty insulting if I changed.

I have a second dress because I was originally going to elope, it’s a cute tea length with crystals and lace. I’m just going to sell it though because my dress won’t have a train and my dress is really breathable and comfortable.

I don’t think I’ll be changing but I bought a used dress on Poshmark for cheap for my wedding dress and decided on another dress so if I feel like it I may change

I think it depends on a lot of things. The venue, the season, the weather, if you do a lot of sick dance moves, how it's bustled.
I have an empire cut dress that isn't as poofy so I don't need to worry about it but I can see why the ball gown would be a concern. My bff had one and didn't change but was hot at the end of the night

It's gorgeous. Honestly I do see how it's a good idea because it's shorter and easier to move around in when reception you'll move a lot. I didn't do that for mine because I felt like when am I ever going to be in the wedding dress aha but it's definitely not a bad idea

I think that it depends on your comfort level and where the reception will be. I was planning on having a wedding dress for the ceremony and then a nice wedding jumpsuit for the reception. I personally don't want to worry about a dress while I'm trying to dance.
