Reception Dress! A do or don't?

Future Mrs.JanicaJacques, on July 21, 2014 at 3:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I love to dance and I love short dresses so what should I do? Get a reception glory dress or just save money and wear my wedding dress to dance in?

I'm having two receptions so I'm kinda leaning towards a flirty one for the big reception. But I would love to know what you lovely ladies think!

If it were me, I'd save my money and just wear the ceremony dress to your receptions!

I personally don't see the point of paying for TWO dresses you are only going to wear for a couple hours and then never wear again. I will be wearing my ceremony dress to the reception. That said, if you absolutely feel you have to find a short dress to dance and can find one that's relatively inexpensive (I'd look for something I would wear again) ... why not? It's your day.

I am wearing just one dress. I can not for the life of me think about spending more money on a second dress that I won't ever wear again. sorry that's just me.

Ebay has some cute, inexpensive dresses that are still formal enough to be a "wedding" dress, but short enough that you wont feel like you're dancing with an extra 20 pounds hanging off of you

I say its another wedding industry scheme that is trying to talk brides into spending even MORE money than they already have on another dress. Women have been wearing (and dancing in) in big ballgowns for centuries with no problem until David Tutera came around! So much time, energy and emotion is put into find The Dress, I don't understand why brides are so quick to jump into something new now. I saw don't do it!

I love to dance as well but considering the cost of my wedding dress and that its the only time i get to wear a dress like that i will be wearing mine all night , i can wear a short dress anytime so i vote stay bridal and keep on your dress

I bought a cheap dress under $100 from Davids Bridal to use as an exit dress. By the time the night was over, that exit dress was just enough to still be bridal, and I could actually breathe. HAHA.

I was against two dresses at one point, but as I am now almost a month away I think I am going to change into a short dress. I LOVE to dance and after talking with some of my friends I think I will regret not being able to jam on the dance floor like I want to.

I had one and thank goodness! I couldn't wait to get out of my first dress although I loved it. My 2nd one was so much more comfortable! That being said, I spent about $400 between both dresses so it was a good deal, the second one just a month or so before the wedding at DB's $99 dress sale.

Pics of first dress and second dress.

I'm buying a "getaway" dress to wear when we're leaving, but I'm wearing my wedding dress for the entirety of the wedding. It's too pretty not to. Smiley smile And my getaway dress will probably be a BM dress from DB, so I'll get to use that $20 coupon. Win!

It sounds like you really love to dance. I think that if you have a few bucks to spare and it would make you feel more comfortable - then do it! You can find some pretty inexpensive dresses that are dressy enough that you could wear for your reception. I have seen many brides who look like they are feeling sick and sweaty from wearing their wedding dress throughout the whole day.

If you plan on dancing up a storm - a short dress would probably be the best option for you.

Yeah, I agree with those that say wear one dress. Maltese hit the nail on the head. It's all a wedding industry scam.

I think it depends on your style and if you are wearing a particular dress for a more conservative ceremony. If you have the money and it will make you happy, go for it. If not, find a dress that you can feel beautiful for the ceremony AND have fun at the reception in.

To each their own-my dress is so special to me that it was never a thought that I wouldn't wear it for both my ceremony & reception. I'll likely never wear it (in public) again so I'll enjoy it while I can. But if it's in your budget and makes you happy, go for it.

Thank you ladies for all the responses! My FH has made the decision for me and is giving me the funds for a reception dress because he said he loves how I set the dance floor on fire and the shorter dress will let me do just that without holding me back. I'm rather excited to find one but nothing will be as beautiful as my wedding dress Smiley smile

I will be wearing one dress for the entire day. It will be the only day of my life I get to wear my wedding dress and I cannot fathom changing into something else.

I plan on getting an inexpensive reception dress only because I would like a shorter dress for the beach. Smiley smile I'm a horrible dancer and feel way too self-conscious dancing, so I'd only to the First Dance and the Father/Daughter dance and call it good lol Maybe I'll wear the ceremony dress for those 2 dances and then change after that. Oh yeah, point is, a reception dress makes sense to me, so I'd say go for it! Smiley smile

I think our wedding is a bit different since we are having two receptions. The wedding is October 11th and then a reception after that I will wear my wedding dress the entire time and then a second reception October 18th with the rest of our family and friends and I'll wear my wedding dress for an hour or so and then change into the flirty fun dancing reception dress so I can really get down with everyone, so I'll be wearing my wedding dress more than the usual so a second is perfect to join that dress as the perfect pair!

I wanted a second dress so that I can actually dance and be comfortable and I found a few at Ross for less than $20 so I got two! Plus they are ones that can be worn again. I just looked for white dresses that could be casual yet formal. I would look at Ross if you have one near you or a store like it so that you can change and be comfortable while having fun. I wouldn't suggest David's Bridal or other store though because it will end up costing more.
