Reception dinner with no entertainment? HELP!!!!!

Strwpink, on February 12, 2011 at 3:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Ok, so me and my fiance' are planning a destination wedding to Kauai and due to our budget entertainment might not be possible. Has anyone ever been to a wedding with no DJ or Band? It's a small wedding with 25-30 people and I would hate to not be able to make everyone happy.

Usually at a reception people want to TALK with the B&G and with each other. If there is load music, talking is difficult during dinner.

How many guests will you have? Will the reception be in a restaurant?

Have you considered and iPod and some portable speakers (if there isn't already a sound system at your dinner venue)? You could create a play list and have quieter music for the dinner hour and something a little livelier for afterwards.

25 to 30 people will be there that's including us and the restaurant seemed like the ideal place with our budget. As far as the ipod that sounds like a great idea but they already have music playing throughout the site.

I went to a reception at a restaurant with about 25 people. There was no entertainment and I thought that it was fine. I was able to talk with other people and enjoy the company. I think that with your location and the number of guests, not having entertainment will be fine.

With that guest count you don't need a DJ. I'm assuming the room is a manageable size so any toasts will be able to be heard without the aid of a microphone. I recommend still having some music softly in the background. If the restaurant already has it playing, then great! But double check with them and bring your i-pod & speakers as a backup.

I think you can make your reception whatever you want it to be. i don't hink you should feel compelled to go with the standard band or dj scenario. just think of it as hosting an amazing dinner party with your favorite people. they will all be so happy to share this amazing day with you and that is what is the most important! Smiley surprise)

We also have a small guest list and budget. Intended guests are at 45 and a large portion are children. We are going the Mp3 route.

My venue also has music playing on their house system, which we will utilize during dinner. Then for dancing they will lower the house music and my pre-arranged and picked Mp3 playlist will be used. I'm still working out the details but I think it will work out fine.

You could also very easily use your venue's music for everything if you arent too picky about the songs, or need specific songs for certain dances, or they play bad muzak.

And frankly, the last 2 weddings I went to had DJs. It was way too loud, the DJ was fast talking and hard to understand, and made dinner pretty obnoxious.

Oh and wait a minute, you will be in KAUAI! Who wants to detract from the natural ambiance?

What about a solo guitar or piano? Or an ipod. In fact, this is exactly the type of reception an ipod would be ideal for. Minimal dancing, minimal need for an M/C, etc.
