Don't worry, no one will mistake your wedding for an NFL viewing party! You do have tons of flexibility here by incorporating some actual sunflowers into your day, and then varying shades of yellow (OR! make gold your accent color!!)

Think about how much of this color you want to tie in - are you thinking a few sunflowers in bouquets and table décor or going all out with it?

A few things that came to mind for me were:

    - incorporating a mix of colors/flowers in your and bridesmaids bouquets to include some sunflowers, or even a single, large sunflower mixed into your bouquet

    - at the ceremony you can leave a seat open with a sign saying "in loving memory of Dad" with a small bouquet of just sunflowers in the front row

    - Including gold accent pieces to centerpieces/tables such as geometric shapes, candle votives, etc. will tie in the color in a subtle way

    - Check out the rental company you're using - they have HUNDREDS of different linens and may even have a sunflower table linen - use this for your cake table, sweetheart table, if there's a table for a unity event during the ceremony, whatever feels right

    - THE CAKE! again, this could be as liberal as you're comfortable with, and could be real/gum paste/whatever other medium bakers use for these things and could be featured all over the cake or one or two subtle flowers in the back.

    - Consider decorative sunflower bouquets throughout the space - on the cake table, at the bar, etc.

    Hope this helps!!

Maybe use different colored sunflowers? There are some with purple shades. My favorites are the dark red "velvet queen" sunflowers

You don't really need a theme. Themes honestly can look really tacky. Here are some photo inspirations.

As Veronica showed, purple and yellow go incredibly well together. I would not worry at all about anyone thinking football at your wedding. Purple bridesmaids dresses with a single sunflower, no need for big bouquets and your bouquet can just be a bunch of sunflowers with a purple ribbon. For your hair, maybe a soft, loose braid using purple ribbon and sunflower hair pieces. You can do so much with those colors. Don't be afraid to go to craft stores and use their stuff to see what you like. It's free!

Ok I'm sorry I forgot to add 2 things so one of my bridesmaids is out of town so to make things easier I'm having the bridesmaids wear a black dress and that way they will be able to wear it again and I also have to incorporate Cardinals in the mix too!! Maybe I'll have to change bridesmaid dresses to purple????

Since purple and yellow are your colors, I would have them wear purple or yellow. I also think it depends on what you have the guys wearing. If you want them in black suits or tuxes that would be a lot of black for a summer wedding. If the wedding is outside, black would attract the sun and could make everyone very uncomfortable. Some of my bridesmaids live in Pennsylvania and some in New Jersey. I live in Maryland. I met up with all of them for a day to go shopping. Another option would be just to pick a store, color, fabric and length and let them go pick a dress of their choice. As for the Cardinals, I am not sure how you would add that in since Cardinals are red and you don't want red. I think red wouldn't really go with the yellow or purple. It almost sounds like you are trying to go in too many different directions with purple, Cardinals and sunflowers.

I agree with Veronica. If you're going to go with purple and yellow, I'd use that in the outfits, bouquets, decorations, etc. The first picture Veronica posted with the paler yellow and purple would go great with a rustic decor, especially for a summer wedding. If you incorporate it with lots of whites, cream, burlap, etc. I think you can have it look more wedding and less Vikings.

Also, if you start to add additional colors into the mix it's going to be too much (I think red is too strong of a color with the purple and yellow). I also agree that if you're doing a summer wedding it's going to be very hot for the groomsmen and bridesmaids if they wear black. I wouldn't worry too much about finding a dress the bridesmaids would rewear, and get one that matches your colors instead. Azazie has a lot of great options for around $100
