Reception card wording--help!!

Engaged girl, on April 12, 2014 at 2:07 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

We will begin serving cocktails and apps immediately following our ceremony (at a different location). FH and I will be off taking pictures during this time. My question is--how on earth would I word the reception card? So far I have:

Cocktails, dinner & dancing

Immediately following the ceremony

Location

City, state

Is that sufficient? Should I include about what time dinner will begin so guests who choose not to attend cocktail hour will know when to show up? Do I even need to include that there will be a cocktail hour or is it OK to just say "dinner reception and dancing immediately following"?? I don't want guests to think that dinner is going to be served right away and then get antsy standing around waiting for us to get there.

I think what you have now is fine for a reception card. Hopefully the majority of guests should know that dinner comes after cocktail hour, so no need to put specific times (and hopefully no one is skipping your cocktail hour).

Do you have a wedding website? You may want to put that somewhere on the card too if you haven't put it anywhere else yet.

Your wording is fine the way it is. As Brandy said, it is typical to have a cocktail hour before dinner, so you are following the timeline that most people would expect.

I put "reception immediately following" there's no need to break it down with the cocktail hour unless it's at a totally different location than reception? I did list it on my website though.

You could do "cocktail hour @ __ with dinner and dancing to follow"

I have a long reception card so I did not do a simple wording. Here is mine:

Please join us for a honky tonk time with

    Drinks, Dinner, and Dancing

Enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres inside the barn

Immediately after the ceremony till six thirty

Then get ready for dinner under the stars at

    six thirty

We hope you will enjoy the food

The dancing will start as soon as dinner is over

The party will go on until midnight

Late night snacks will be served at ten
