Reception alcohol

Julie Beth, on July 5, 2020 at 11:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
What type of alcohol did you serve at your reception and how was it served? We're planning to have a light beer that's popular here, a specialty saison beer, and white claw (all our friends are obsessed). Also red and white wine and margaritas! Do you think we need rosé? We are buying it or making it all ourselves to save money. Beer will be in cans. We're having custom cups made for the wine and margaritas (no glass allowed). Spring wedding outdoors! I'm interested to know what all everyone served and if you did kegs, cans, etc and how you kept things cold without a bartending service. We're thinking of getting large galvanized tubs and filling with ice and having ice in coolers hidden for backup! Have any ideas?

That all sounds really good ! I don’t think you need rose. We had wine and cognac (in my culture cognac is a big thing)

I think that selection is good, definitely no need for rose - most rose drinkers will drink white so they should be covered. Serving them in ice tubs will be easy and convenient - maybe just be weary if you have anyone under 21 since it'll be self serve.

We chose Miller light, Bud light, and Corona for beer and moscato, and a couple of red wines lol. I don’t drink red so I’m not sure what they are called 🤣. We will also have a champagne toast for all of the guests.

I'm not a fan of red either lol. I'll let my fiancé handle that! We're just trying to stay within our budget and it adds up so fast. Yes also champagne! Moscato is my faaave but idk if it'll make the cut

I think 2 canned beers, and 2 wines (red and white), and 2 signature drinks is the way to go. This is what we were going to do but our wedding plans have since changed. I think people will just be happy there are free alcohol choices. I found that kegs could be more costly compared to cans. Dont forget to have plenty of water and soda as well.

I like the galvanized tub idea. A rental place we saw had a special table/stand to keep drinks cold! Believe it or not ice is expensive especially if it's getting delivered. They estimated us $500 for a 50 person outdoor wedding..

I personally would do a rose instead of a red wine because nobody I know actually likes read wine lol, but some people do. I am doing self serve beer and wine and I will have big drink dispensers of sangria. I'm going to have Coors lite, Bud Lite and Coors banquet. For wine I will do a white, pink moscato, rose and maybe two bottles of red wine.

Cans are more economical than kegs. You don't need rose' with red and white choices, but it really depends on what your guests drink and what they don't.

Find out if your venue allows alcohol to be self-served. Many do not. In the chance that they do, you would still need a designated person for portion control of wine and margaritas that are not "single serve" in cans or bottles.
