Reception "Activities"-No dancing

Has anyone done any fun sort of activities at their reception that they can suggest? We will not be having dancing, so I wanted to have something to get the guests involved. We will not be having dancing, so I wanted to have something to get the guests involved. I'm not sure if that would be necessary, but I want to make the reception less boring.

I've heard of doing the shoe/newlywed game, or maybe a trivia game where the guests could win a prize or something. (I know that sounds a little bit like a bridal shower though)

Thanks for your suggestions!

My hubby is terrified of dancing and the thought of it was making him feel sick, so we decided to do a brunch wedding and just have LOTS of booze and food and everyone enjoyed getting to sit, eat, drink, and laugh. We had a wonderful crowd with no "forced fun". (ie games) I actually love dancing, but not as much as my husband hates dancing.

We also had an after party on a roof top bar for a few hours and that was more of a typical "party" atmosphere, whereas our reception was just toasts, and tons of food and drinks.

Your day sounds lovely Smiley smile let your guests enjoy their talking, and like others have said maybe they will dance anyway!

As an on site coordinator at a venue, I've had a few weddings come through that didn't want to dance. There was a recent wedding that the bride and groom were set on not having dancing as they do not like dancing, even arranging the tables so there was no space to dance. However, someone took over their music and started a conga line, which turned into guests starting to move tables (with dishes and glasses on them) to make room for dancing.

We are on the beach and we have had multiple people bring games such as cornhole, ring toss, even board games. In my 2 1/2 years doing this, not a single game was played at a wedding, not even by children (although buckets, shovels, sand toys, paper and crayons are always a hit). Guests would rather drink, dance, and mingle.

My advice - Even though you may not want dancing, I would encourage you making a space for it. You don't have to have a dance floor to dance... short carpet or sand work just fine! Smiley smile

I have a side room that's not gonna have anything in it and an trying to convince my mom that we should set up corn hole in there.

We're not having dancing either, but we're not planning any activities. It's a restaurant reception, so we're going for a dinner-party vibe. Just lots of good food, booze and conversation, and we figure people will entertain themselves.

That’s what my son is doing. Lawn games under a pavilion at their venue. They will do first dances but other than that they aren’t wanting to dance. I told him I don’t think others will if they aren’t in the reception area but who knows. They are having a small 50 guest wedding (including wedding party).
