Recently Pregnant, worried about a dress

Paige , on February 9, 2020 at 9:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hey everyone! So my fiancé and I just recently found out we are pregnant (super exciting)!! But I had already bought my wedding dress which I am in love with. I tried it on with a pillow underneath to see if it would fit and it just barely does.
Do you guys think I would be safe to just buy the same dress again just 3 or 4 sizes larger and get it taken in? It is jersey material underneath and is a fit and flare style.
Or do I just go the go the route a lot of websites say and get a different dress with an a line waist? The dress I bought is seriously so gorgeous and with a bump it just makes my heart melt.
Thank you for your input! Also my wedding is in August so I’ll be around 7months.

If you don’t mind paying for all the alterations why not? It’s your special day. 😃Also congrats!!

If you explain the circumstances maybe the store will let you exchange it for a larger size.

I tried to call them and explain and they were actually pretty rude. And said no exchanges or returns even though it hasn’t been altered.
Said “call alterations” and then the alterations lady said to not even get the same dress because it wouldn’t look good 😭 but I thought it was adorable with that fake bump!

Thank you!! I just have to find an amazing alterations lady.
The bridal shops was very rude and told me to not even get the same dress because it “wouldn’t look good pregnant”

That’s very rude. It’s your decision and your money. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤗

It may be worth asking if they have experience of altering for pregnancy, particularly 3rd trimester. I would imagine your body will reshape a few times, so you might have various fittings throughout, or a lot at the end. Remember that your bust may need expansion too.

Genetics may give you an idea of how you might grow, but as with all things, nothing is guaranteed. My mum was small both times, but I was very spherical by the end both times. Smiley xd

Seven months is pretty pregnant. I think Sweet'N'Rhodes makes a good point that all women carry differently, sometimes even from pregnancy to pregnancy. I think it would be very difficult to predict how your body will look and what your shape and size will be - putting a pillow under your dress is not going to give you an accurate idea of how your body will change when you are seven months pregnant.

I personally wouldn't want to wear a fit-and-flare style dress when pregnant because I think that silhouette accentuates curves and looks best with a small waist and bigger hips/butt and can be a little more difficult to move in than a-line styles or styles with a wider skirt. I imagine I would value comfort a little more when pregnant than I do right now and might prefer something less form fitting or restrictive. I feel like during the next several months your body is going to change a lot and you will be dealing with all sorts of emotions. In your position, I'd probably try to order a new dress much closer to my wedding date even if it meant getting something off the rack or not being able to custom order in an exact dress.

One thing I would suggest is considering a dress with a corset style back (or having the dress you get altered to have a corset style back). Corset backs best accommodate changes in size and you'll be able to make sure the dress fits correctly on the day of your wedding without needing a last minute alteration by a seamstress.

    Oh and congratulations!

First, congrats!! Thats so exciting! I would maybe look into some local dress-shops/ alterations/ tailors. Ive seen them do some pretty impressive work. It could be worth a look.

I would think a different dress would be in order, especially if your original is a mermaid/fit and flair. Your body will change. Like others have said, you don’t know for sure how much...but chances are, by 7 months, it’ll be a pretty substantial change. But for sure talk to a seamstress first. Get their opinion with your current dress in hand.

    Congrats and good luck!!!
