Recently Engaged!!!

Taylor, on August 5, 2022 at 12:25 PM Posted in Planning 2 7

Who is with me and is recently ENGAGED??? This past week my fiancé and I went to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. On Tuesday we went to the beach after dinner and in that moment and time is where he asked the question that we have been waiting for. Our entire family was waiting for a phone call and it was so magical in everyday. Now that we are back home, we are excited to enjoy our engagement, but also excited to start planning. We want a summer wedding, and hoping to have one by next year. I know that may seem so fast, but that's our plan. With that only being 10-11 months away.. it is a little stressful and pressure to get things done. I have already been in contact with a venue, cater, photographer, and much more. Lucky for us, so far no one has booked things for 2023 summer.. but still waiting for the venue we want.

How are you all doing?

Whats the best way to not get stressed and just be excited to plan ?

I feel like i have been waiting for this moment for a while now, and I have things saved on my computer.. but now that it is here, it game time!!!

So any helpful tips would just calm the nerves and just know it will all work out... I need that support ladies!!

If you're in the same boat as me, good luck wedding planning, have fun and CONGRATS!!!!

Eeeek how exciting! Congrats to you and your love. First bit of advice is to take a few days to just really enjoy this sweet moment, it all goes so fast and wedding plan can get overwhelming esp in the beginning. Next step would be for you and your partner to decide your vision (how big of an event, where etc) and your budget, then you can nail down your venue and date and go from there. Have fun with it and and best of luck you!!!!

Congratulations on your engagement Taylor! That’s exciting! I’d definitely say, budget, budget budget. It helps when you are looking at venues and pricing for everything. You’ll be able to figure out things you want versus things you do not
want or not willing to pay extra for. Happy planning!

Congrats! We took like 7 months to start booking things because we weren’t in much of a rush tbh.

Suggestions would be figuring out your budget first. Then deciding what things are really important to you. Like for us photographer and videographer were really important to us so a big amount of our budget went to that. We actually picked a cheaper venue so se could afford the photographer we really wanted. We totally went way over our budget though 😅 but I wouldn’t suggest it lol. Just remember to take a break when you need it and try to enjoy the process as much as possible. Also! A binder! I found printing out all our contracts was nice when I needed to refer back to them for anything

Congratulations on your engagement. Defiantly figure out a realistic budget, who is going to be contributing what (ex: bride’s parents are doing flowers and dress, fiancé’s parents are doing alcohol and tux rentals). After that figure out what you both want this wedding to look and feel like. What vibe, color palette, theme do you want? Ask questions about how you both want to feel during the ceremony and reception? How do you want your guests to feel? What are details that are important to you? Once you have that you can start to get a clearer direction of how you want your wedding to go.

The next thing, and I don’t want to add stress to you, but girl, you need to get to a wedding dress shop ASAP. Due to Covid and the war in Ukraine a lot of shops have had wedding dress shipping times go from 6-9 months to 9-12 months and that’s without alterations. At least according to the shop I went to for mine but that was back in February of 2022.

Thank you!!! We are kinda on the same path as far as finding a venue that is cheaper and putting money towards pictures and other things like food and small details that mean something big to us. Thank you for the advise and suggestions. (:

No problem. Planning a wedding seriously is a major team effort. In most cases this is the first big project you and your fiancé will be working on together as the main collaborators. Don’t let yourselves get too bogged down though. Create you vision, gather your team (parents and wedding party), and make sure to delegate roles and jobs to people. My MOH did the research for my photographer. My mother found florists she liked the work of and handed me a list to pick from. My FMIL is keeping my head level and checks to make sure I don’t stray from budget or the vision I set. Surrounding yourself with people who A) know you, B) are responsible, and C) are willing to help will be your greatest tools to getting some serious leg work done on your initial wedding planning. 🥰
