What are everyone's thoughts on doing a receiving line versus trying to greet everyone at the reception? I have never been to a wedding where they have one because the bride and groom just try to mingle around to everyone during the reception.

Is it worth adding a receiving line (or something like it) immediately following the ceremony to greet most guests and then try to find the rest of guests during the reception?

*Ceremony and reception are located in the same place about 2 miles apart. I was thinking about doing a 4 PM ceremony with a 6 PM dinner time. But thinking about adding a receiving line would bump the ceremony time to 3:30 maybe? I'm not sure how long they take. Wedding will be 250-300 people.

I have been to a few weddings with them and they just take FOREVER! One wedding I went to, had about 200 guests, so we had to wait in line for almost an hour just to say congrats to the couple. It was a bit ridiculous.

We did a reciving line and stopped by tables. We had 200 guests and maybe took 15 minutes we were at the entrance for the social hour, some people waited for us while others grabbed an app, socialized and then came back

Receiving lines are awkward and time consuming. A friend had one at her wedding for about 75 people it took about 45 minutes to get through the receiving line. Just make sure to go to every table and mingle a little bit with everyone.

Receiving lines are dated and the last thing I'd want to ask my guests to do is stand in line at my wedding. Spending some time at each table is much warmer and genuine.

Nope. I'd rather go to tables and not rush the convos like a receiving line does.

I'm struggling with this too, and I have an even bigger guest list than you. I see both perspectives - it would take forever to go to each table and greet at the reception, but it would take equally long for the receiving line to get through, perhaps even longer because with the reception table method, at least the timing is more in our hands and we can't be as easily held captive by Great Aunt Gerdy who wants to talk to us for 10 minutes in the middle of the receiving line. And at least people will have food in front of them too.

IMO, if people get offended they didn't get a personal greeting and thank you for coming, then that's on them and not me/you. I hope people will understand that we/you all are going to be exhausted physically and emotionally by the time that point in the day is gotten to, and it just might not be possible to say hello to everyone.
