Reasonable alterations

Shannon, on May 8, 2022 at 8:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So, I went to my first alterations appointment yesterday with a Seamstress that I found on my town Facebook page. She is retired and does this part time.
The train will be removed, length shortened, taken in a bit, and small sleeves will be added. All of this for $200. I got a quote from a store chain for $500+ for the same alterations. I encourage everyone to go through a non-corporate Seamstress.

I agree, independent local businesses are the way to go. I am glad you found a good rate!

I picked my dress up last September and scheduled an alterations appointment with davids bridal for July just to make sure I had an appointment somewhere. I have an appointment with an independent seamtress May 17th so assuming that goes well I will be canceling the Davids Bridal appointment

Yes I totally advocate for independent seamstress. I like how intentional they are and personalize the experience. I only wish my alterations were only 200.00!

100% agree! My sister’s bridesmaids dress was a piece of work and our seamstress altered it for just about $100. Mine just needs a hem so I know it will probably be even cheaper!

I’ve heard that Davids Bridal price gouges for alterations. Good plan.

I went with an independent seamstress as well and she was wonderful! She does the alterations out of her home. She also has a two week turnaround time so I was able to wait until 4 weeks before my wedding to get alterations done (this gave me peace of mind because I was worried that it would be hard to maintain my weight if I had to go 2-3 months before my wedding)
