Reason Why One Diamond in Halo Ring is Not Shiny

Okay, so I got my ring in January and it was spotless save for a scuff on the back of the ring (that mysteriously is no longer there). If it had a mark on any of the diamonds I would have noticed. I also have pictures showing it was fine. Sometime the week of or the time after my wedding, one diamond got very very dull. I went to get it cleaned and when they checked under a microscope they could see it was very dull, but they were not sure if it was the diamond itself or just something on it.

They cleaned and scrubbed it, as have I, and nothing makes it any brighter. I know the ring wasn’t like this when I got it, as it only shows up in recent pictures.

Has any one else had this happen? I got my ring from Zales if that helps. Their only solution was to try to just give me the twin of my ring in their store- but I’m sentimental so I’d like to keep the one I got married in. I even wonder if before I got married it some how got switched when I brought it in to get cleaned, since that scuff on the setting isn’t visible.

Or maybe I’m crazy? All I know is I got married in this one (even if it wasn’t my one I was proposed to with) and I’d like to keep it, and not risk them possibly switching it if I send it to get fixed.

How much would it cost to just get the diamond replaced? If its one small diamond and it bothers you that much I'd just look into getting a new diamond in its place.

Did you get your ring insured? could it be possible they switch the diamond? I would ask to see the serial number or certification and get a second opinion. Your ring should look brighter after a professional cleaning.

Yeah it has a warranty, and yeah I think I’ll for sure be going to get more opinions, maybe even a different zales than the ones near me, to be sure

In this picture it’s in the top right part of the ring. It’s on the outer edge on that right side. I can’t get a much better picture of it right now, but under the microscope it’s really easy to see.

Yes I see it! definitely go to another Zales and call corporate because this should not be an issue. hopefully they can replace the diamond your ring is very pretty! and the shame of them for having a customer not satisfied! good luck!

If Zales won’t replace it I would probably take it to a different jeweler. I once lost a baguette from my ring and the place it came from had awful customer service so I took it to a different jeweler who replaced it. You couldn’t even tell that it wasn’t an original side stone. I do think that Zales should replace it because that’s obviously not something you did to it, but if it’s too much of a hassle, it shouldn’t be terribly expensive to take elsewhere.
