Realistic budget or not?

Araceli, on October 10, 2019 at 5:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Is it realistic at all to have a beach wedding for $2,000 for 32 guests? We recently went to a wedding in Colorado and all they did was a short ceremony at Garden of the Gods and afterwards we all went to a restaurant. I was thinking of doing something similar at the the beach. It will all be close family and friends who want to make a vacation of it and we will make it our honeymoon as well. So the $2,000 is for wedding day only, we would of course spend more to stay a week there.

    Hi Araceli!

To make it roughly about $2k for the wedding day on the beach, I feel like it could be possible if you look into elopements.

    Good luck and happy planning!

I think so ! Especially given that it's a small guest list

Typically, the reception is about half the cost of the wedding. So, for 32 guests and a $2,000 budget, you'd be talking about $30 each for food, alcohol, and tips. It's likely doable, if you don't select a high cost area, but you would have to avoid high end restaurants.

Alternatively, you could try to cut way back on other expenses (e.g., skipping flowers, foregoing photography, or wearing a dress you already own instead of a formal wedding dress) in order to spend more on the reception. Only you can know what is important to you.

You won’t be wearing a $1000 dress, but yes, it’s doable. Limit your decor and bar and you should be fine with that guest count.

I have my dress and wedding band. He doesn’t want an expensive ring and I don’t think we’ll spend much on his attire. The $2,000 is mostly for a decorated arch on the beach, wedding officiant, marriage license, fees, bouquet, and dinner (which I think our family might pitch in for). The problem I’m having now is finding a place that offers what I’m looking for.

I’m getting married in Key West, and that’s about what I’m paying for my ceremony. That includes the chairs, wedding arbor, officiant and flowers for me and a boutonniere for him. We also get some things for our reception (it’s a bundled deal through the Sheraton). This does not include food, music or any extras. It also does not include our attire or travel expenses. My point is that it is possible to have a simple ceremony for that amount, but I don’t see how with food and everything else you wouldn’t go over $2000.

it all depends on where you live and how creative you are in looking for places to have the ceremony. You said beach shouldn't be that expensive. Rental chairs can be pricey sometimes.

if you want people to sit. You should search the below arch sells on ebay for 20.99 it's inexpensive when you put In the work to find discounts.

I wouldn't think so, unless it was a very cheap restaurant and you could pay $10 per person. It would be hard to get a dress, suit, officiant, flowers, chairs for the ceremony, and invites all for another $1,000. And that doesn't include thinks like dessert, DJ, rings, photography, etc.

The dress, suit, and rings aren't part of it. We don't want an actual reception, just like a dinner. No dj, dessert, or invitations and the dress, suit, and rings won't be a part of the $2,000. So it would be more like the ceremony on the beach with flowers on the arch, the officiant, fees, bouquet, and maybe a cheaper restaurant (our guests are only parents, siblings, and closest best friends) so anything extra they want I don't think they would care to buy food/drink wise.

That's kind of the kind of bundle we are looking for. We don't want a dj or anything much extra.

Yes, I don't think we will do chairs as the ceremony will probably be short and I know they don't mind standing (we did for my friends wedding and it was fine).

That's pretty much what we have in mind! We don't want a full on reception, just the ceremony, and have dinner.
