Real vs Silk flowers

Cheryl, on August 1, 2019 at 10:13 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14
We are having a small wedding in Gatlinburg, TN next April. It is about a 5.5 hour drive from where we live in KY. I am stuck between wanting real flowers vs silk/faux flowers. I have some faux flower bouquets saved that I really like, just afraid that I'll hate them after they come in. With real flowers I'm afraid they wouldn't make the trip back without dying.

I just ordered sola wood flowers from Southern Blooms Co. I totally get the being nervous about them! Picking which ones I wanted and actually deciding to buy them was literally harder than picking out my dress. They’re having a sale right now, so that helped my decision 😉. There’s a group the company created for brides on Facebook which really helped because brides post their bouquets so you can see what they actually get and that the overwhelming majority are super happy with them!

Thank you! I'll check them out. I like the idea of being able to keep my flowers. We just bought our first home last month and we have so much more space. I was thinking if I did faux or even wood I could display them in our living room or my shelf in my dining room.

I was going to go with real flowers until I was told my favorite flower did not grow in December. I am so happy that I went with silk flowers. This is the bouquet I chose. I purchased Them from budget bride.com they are reasonable if you do not have specific wants and just want a basic bouquet. (They have 100$ for all options) The more unique the more the price goes up. For example my gold tipped roses.

Oh my gosh!!!! That is BEAUTIFUL! I love peonys but I know they can be on the expensive side for real. I had a florist in Gatlinburg quote me just for my bouquet $250 for a mix of peonys and ranunculus.

    Hey there!
I owned a Florist for many years. I always dreamed of having fresh flowers for my own wedding , after designing for so many brides.

Now that I'm engaged, and planning the wedding, I've shocked myself by deciding to use silk flowers.

The stress of making them at the last minute, just wasn't worth it to me.
With silk, I can make them ahead of time, enjoy the rehearsal and wedding, semi stress free because I can set up ahead of timeSmiley smile

Then the bridal party has an added bonus of having their boquets as a keepsake if they so choose.

Silk flowers have come a long way. They are very realistic and you aren't limited by season.

    Happy planning 💐🌸🌷🌹🌻🌺❤

Thank you!!! I'm definitely leaning towards silk. I love that I can keep them after and incorporate them into our home in some way.

    I'm using Budget Bride.

My dad is allergic to most flowers I love, and we have an August wedding in the city. I figured it was cheaper and everything would look fresh all night long.

I was scrolling through their site last night! They have some beautiful flowers. I never took into account allergies! Another good reason to mix real flowers.

My venue came with a real flower bouquet so that's what we went with. If it wasn't included I still would have. I just love the feel and look of real flowers. They lasted for awhile! They were sunflowers and purple lizzies and we had them at the venue, back to the hotel for a couple of days in water, then drove them 1 hour away to MIL's house where we stayed nearby for 1 night. The wedding was Saturday and on Tuesday I wrapped up several of each flower and mailed them to CO from AZ to have the petals preserved and made into a ring. The rest stayed at my MIL for her to enjoy. She said they looked nice for over a week. Apparently her favorite is also sunflowers so I was really happy that she was able to enjoy them since I didn't want to deal with trying to fly them back to OH with us. If you do real I highly recommend getting a ring or necklace made with some of the petals. I will always treasure this ring and love being able to wear my bouquet.
