Real vs Artificial Flowers

Tiana , on June 8, 2019 at 12:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 21
My planner and I are at spot where we are not agreeing.lol To save on funds,my bridesmaids and I were planning to make our own bouquets using artificial flowers. One of my bridesmaids made her own for her wedding and they were gorgeous. My planner would rather I use real flowers...Now we did some pricing and the amount is WAAAY out of my league.
She is stepping back a little and says "Okay we can use artificial for your centerpieces and bridesmaids BUT you have to have the real flowers."I looked at Costco and Sam's (who knew!?)they have lovely calla lilly boquets...but one of the things that I want the most is a bouquet with peacock feathers added....I'll add them myself if I have to....Of course they do not have customization added.🤦🏽‍♀️Can I just stick with my home made ideas? Are artificial flowers taboo at weddings?!#justtryingtosavemoney

Unless you use super cheap faux florals for centerpieces, I don't think anyone will notice what kind of flowers you use for any arrangements.

I purchased these and the feathers from Amazon just getting a feel for them and the quality. I thought that they were really nice.(My theme is peacock)

I don't think artificial ones are bad at all. In fact a lot of brides here do it including myself.
There's alot of alternatives to using flowers too like you hear people on these forums doing them out of paper origami, even and it'll look really cool still. Fresh flowers are always gorgeous but they definitely cost way more.

Your planner needs to understand that you hired her and are paying her, so she doesn't just get to decide what kind of flowers you want for YOUR wedding. If you want artificial flowers and they're better suited for your budget, then go for it! Likely no one will notice and if they do notice, they won't care. As long as you're happy with them, that's all that matters.

That's strange how your planner has such strong feelings against artificial. There's nothing wrong with artificial flowers! Ignore your planner on this if you want fake flowers

Ask your planner if she’ll take the difference out of her fee.

I did sola wood flowers 100% by myself (well I still have 2 more bouquets to finish, but its time not money holding it up). They're beautiful affordable and last forever. If your interested check out Luv2doityourself on Etsy. She was the only one with reasonable prices. She also has something called "RIP Flowers" where you get 60 flowers for $20. These are supposedly flowers that are 'not perfect' but out of my 60 I was only not able to use 3 of them. I used those 3 as my practice pieces to get my shade of dye just right.
Also, skip out on buying extra "dye" shades. They will run you $6/each but they are literally the 50 cent bottles of acrylic paint you buy from Walmart.

If your venue allows artificial flowers (mine doesn't) then just make your own. The planner is pushing for real flowers because they usually get a kick back if you use one that she suggested. Nothing wrong with artificial!

They're made out of wood. I highly recommend them. Plus they second as an extra gift for your bridesmaids.

She works for you. Don't let her take over. It's not her wedding. It's her job to give you what you want. Often, planners have relationships with various vendors (florists, bakers, etc) who give them a kick-back for pushing and booking their services.

Of course you can use DIY flowers, either faux or real. You don't need her agreement. Make a straightforward statement... "I'm going with faux flowers." No wavering. Who is the bride?

Get sola samples before you order your bouquets. Sola flowers can be very beautiful, but you don't really realize what they are until you have them in your hands. I was going to use solas, but when I got the sample blossoms I knew they are not for me. They felt stiff and brittle. Some had chipped edges because they are very delicate. I didn't feel like I was holding "flowers" in my hands. I chose to go with high-end silk flowers. Some people really love solas, though. The vendors always offer to send samples for a small fee. It's worth getting them before placing a full order.

No way! take those fake flowers and beautyfy that room! Besides, the logical thought is they will die off soon (1 week). That's a fact. With fake ones, you can give them away as gifts to friends and family, or donate them to a thrift store for some other couple to use
