"Real" Relationship Math (just for Fun)

Emily, on July 4, 2020 at 10:37 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

Thought this might entertain some of you - if you're gonna participate just approach with a sense of humor. Have you ever met someone who is like 20 years old and you ask how long they've been together and they say like "12 years" and you start questioning whether you understand how time works?

I made up a little game in my head where I do "real years" vs. time years. Go through and put your own if you want! Some of you with kids may end up being together longer than you're alive. Smiley laugh

***

Actual relationship: 9 years 10 months

"Real years" Calculation: 7 years 4 months

Pre-High school graduation years [0 years] x 0 = 0

Post-high school / in college years [0 years] x .25 = 0

Dating years but not living together [5 years] x .5 = 2 years 6 months

Living together, but no kids [4 years 10 months] x 1 = 4 years 10 months

Living together, with kids [0 years] x [3 x # kids] = 0

Ok, let me see if I can figure this out.

Actual relationship: about a week shy of 8 years

Dating years, but not living together [4 years] x .5 = 2 years

    Living together, but no kids [2 years, 1 month] x 1 = 2 years, 1 month

    So, I guess 4 years, 1 month?

We quite literally just passed the 8 year anniversary of meeting. (...we gathered pretty quick that we needed to date).

You got it! I just was joking with my friends with kids that the years you don't live together are relatively "easy" - less of the dumb stuff that can get on your nerves, because you don't deal with sleeping habits, yadda yadda.
They were like "wait until you have freaking kids" 😂 - they recommend 9 years for every year with a kid, but I thought that may turn insane. Lol

Nice! I'm always curious to see how long ppl dated before living together as well. I really value and enjoyed the time I lived alone as an adult.
    Thanks for playing!

Actual relationship: 1 year, 7 months
Real relationship: 1 year, 3.5 months

Dating years but not living together [7 months] x .5 = 3.5 months

    Living together, but no kids [1 year ] x 1 = 1 year

    Living together, with kids [0 years] x [3 x # kids] = 0 (unless our dog counts 😂)

If cats counted we'd be in trouble. Granted, one of them did almost puke on us from the back of the couch - so kind of like a kid?
