Real or Flameless Tealight Candles?

Brianne, on April 1, 2018 at 8:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

Centerpiece Idea

I'm torn - should I get real tealight candles and have them lit or should I get flameless tea light candles to put into the small lanterns I have as a part of the table centerpieces?

I dont want it to look cheesy or cheap if I have flameless candles. Thought, comments, experience?

I had flameless candles because my wedding was outside. If you have a nice votive they def don't look cheap.

You didn’t attach the picture, but I’m doing flameless candles. They do look a little cheesy, but I have no desire to deal with the possibility of disaster from a real flame. My grandpa was and a couple of my best friends are firefighters, and it’s been shoved in my head since I was little that real candles are never a good thing.

Oops - Picture attached now Smiley smile

I agree - open bar + flameless candle can cause some concern.

    Thanks for the input!

A lot of venues don't even allow real candles, it's nice that you've found one that does! I love the look of real candles for center pieces, unless the candle is hidden within a frosted container in which case flameless is just as good if not better. Those lanterns people use for center pieces don't always look like they have vents to allow a real candle to keep burning...maybe try a real candle in one as a trial and see if it stays lit/doesn't blacken the lantern?

Even if you choose flameless, I'm sure your decor will still be lovely and guests will like it!

They have flameless ones now that flicker exactly like a real candle. We have some at our venue and I honestly thought they were real flames. You can get them at target.

We REALLY wanted wax candles but finally decided on flameless because we are having our reception outside by the beach and the wind makes it hard to keep them lit. That, combined with the price (these are part of our floral/event designer’s package) made me go that direction. Some are really good—my aunt had some at Christmas that I literally didn’t know were LED until I got up close! Some venues also prohibit flames so that’s something to double check.

I am doing both. We are having some type of candle hanger/lantern hanging down the ceremony aisle, those will be flame-less. In our centerpieces I will most likely use real candles

I am using fake tealights because the venue does not let you have open flames. Say a child knocks it over,or someone who has been drinking alittle too much. I am fine with it,because I use them all the time at home and they are the safest bet.

Luckily, my venue is okay with open flames but I completely understand. I think the flameless will be stress-free Smiley smile Thanks for your comment!

I’d say fake candles and I don’t think they look cheap. Does your lantern have a hole for it to breathe if you did a real candle? we are doing lanterns too but decided to do battery operated string lights.

Something to also consider is that real candles drip wax. I know that sounds obvious, but I didn't think about it until my decorator reminded me that wax was going to get all over my centerpiece design if I did real candles instead of fake. If you're renting centrepiece or have the candles by something you don't want to get waxy, I'd do fake.

We did both because the church didn't allow real candles so we had flameless candles that we also used at the reception in addition to real candles. We had to contain the real candles in glass containers. The really good quality flameless candles look real. Pottery Barn has some really great ones.

I'm doing the led flameless candles and real candles or cheaper price wise but definitely didn't want the hassle, since mine is a outdoors event

Real If your venue will allow. The fake tea lights look so fake. I'd get real short pillars, not tea lights, they only last about an hour or so lit.

They have frameless candles that flicker or look more realistic than just the simple light.

I bought mine at Micheal crafts. 24 pack for 14.99 . You can also find them online at amazon with different color flames.
