Real or Fake Petals for Petal Toss?

Kay, on August 20, 2021 at 2:31 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
Do you suggest real or fake petals to use for the guest to toss for the ceremony exit? If you’ve used fake petals, did they work just as well?

I will always suggest real flowers. They look better, smell better and photograph better. Hands down. Plus, loose petals from real flowers are very affordable (and better for the environment).

You should also talk to your venue. Some venues won't allow false petals to be thrown outside as they don't decompose.

My venue doesn't allow for anything that non-biodegradable to be thrown.

If your venue is outside, I'd suggest real because they are biodegradable and there will be no clean up.

Real always. If you are outside, nature cleans up because they are biodegradable. Fake petals are only feasible indoors and have to be cleaned up. Real is also always cheaper.

We went with fake silk petals because that’s what the venue allowed. Check your contract or contact the venue to make sure because some of them don’t let you use real flowers.

I second with Charlotte, our venue prohibits fresh flower petals on any part of the property inside and outside so we had no choice but to go with silk ones.

And yes, they worked and looked just as good.

Go with real ones! Smiley smile They look a lot better in photos! Just make sure your venue allows that though. There's a wedding service I was looking into and they don't allow for any flowers (real or fake) to be thrown on the ground because they don't want to leave anything behind.

Hmm that sounds bizarre because cleaning up fake petals is more work for them but it is what it is

Definitely check with your venue to see if they have any rules or guidelines. Some places won’t let real petals be used indoors because certain colors can stain the floor if stepped on. Others won’t let fake ones be used outdoors because they aren’t biodegradable.

You have to put a lot of force into grinding the petals for them to stain. Unless they are dyed, which only the unnatural colors are (blue, green, rainbow, dark purple) and then they can potentially stain but still need to grind them for that to happen, which just stepping over them will not do.
