Real or Fake Flowers?

We are very tight on money seeing my parents can't help to pay for the wedding and his parents aren't doing much. We are ending up for paying for our whole wedding. So my question is should we get real or fake flowers. He really wants real ones but the flowers I REALLY want are Deep Red Calla Lilies...

Hi, I am in your same position of paying for the wedding ourselves. Therefore, I think I will be doing a combination of real and fake - real for bouquets and boutennaires, but for the decorations will use silk. I'm not planning to put large amounts of flowers on the tables - doing candles with just a couple of in-season stems per table. Silk isn't always cheaper, though, so it will take some research, and I will be looking for sales and bargain websites!

Real Flowers can definately get expensive... If you really want real flowers search for a flower market in your area... find out where florist purchase their flowers.

That's what I'm doing... My sister inlaw is actually doing all of my centerpieces and ceremony flower arrangements. We went to purchase some flowers for the sample centerpiece and for one center piece we paid about $25! I'm having large tall vases with mostly roses and hydrangeas. If you have smaller centerpieces it is definately cheaper! The roses cost about $6 for 2 dozen!!! At a flower mart you can definately find Red Calla Lillies and when you buy in bulk is cheaper!

    Good luck!

I am going thru the same thing!!! I am having tiff. blue and brown colors and love cala lillies. I went to Michaels and bought the fake ones (they look so real) and I bought blue spray paint and tipped the tip of the flowers. They look awsome and you can hardly tell they are fake until you touch them. I only spent like 30 cents a flower and got enough for 4 bouquets, 4 boutaniers, and small arrangements for the parents. The damage was only like 100 dollars with the spray paint and ribbon and pearls. They usually have a elderly lady that just does part time work there as a hobby and does awsome arrangements or can tell you cheap ways to do it. Thats were I got my idea!!! But I vote FAKE all the way!!! Then you can keep them too! Hope this helps!!!

Totally silk! I'm about 99% sure that I'm going with silk! I cannot afford real, especially since I have to have hydrangeas and peonies....which apparently are stupidly expensive. I know I have champagne tastes and a pbr budget, but like others have said they last forever. I got an estimate for flowers....they wanted 2k!! Are you out of your mind?? My entire budget is 3k! FOR EVERYTHING! So yea, silk all the way. I found a cool site.... wedideas.com Really awesome looking bouquets and other stuff, and they have BLING! I'm all about the bling. My centerpieces will have no flowers, so that helps too. they are going to be big branches with crystals hanging off them and then the loose diamond type things at the base with lots of votives around them!

Darling you deserve the flowers you want.

The smell alone and the touch of God in your hands...priceless...but I can understand the cost concern.

Believe it or not look at FTD.com, Teleflora.com and they have those wonderful sales, also can you find a wholesale florists or a warehouse florists?

Or maybe to get a full look put silk with real... these are just suggestions and at the end of the day you have decide what is most important for you.

Good Luck. Wishing you the Lord's continued blessings with love, laughter, wealth and health from here until Infinity.

We are using real flowers for the bouquets, boutoniers and corsages. My bridesmaids and I will have small bouquets to save money and then my flower girl will sprinkle silk autumn leaves down the aisle.

I really don't see what the big problem is with fake flowers. They are easier to deal with and they look exactly like what you want them to look like. My vote goes with fake.
