Real Costs

Sarah, on April 25, 2017 at 7:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 38

Hi everyone! I'm getting married on June 22, 2019. I'm wanting to do a romantic rustic garden/barn type of wedding. Outdoor ceremony in a garden or woodland area, indoor reception in a barn, or outdoor in a tent. I live in Massachusetts and have looked at several venues. My top two are Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm in Peabody and Moraine Farm in Beverly. Both are supposedly somewhat affordable. I received a proposal from Moraine with a detailed cost breakdown. For venue/ceremony, food, drink, alcohol, staffing, fees, and taxes, we're looking at $30,000. Is this on par with what others have experienced in this area and for this type of wedding?

If anyone reading this has had a wedding that's along the same lines of what I'm looking for, I'd be so grateful to know what you spent. Just looking for real deal figures. It would really help my anxiety over this!

Thank you all Smiley smile

    Costofwedding.com

gives you an idea for your area.

I'm in Ohio, but that figure was pretty standard for what I looked at for barn weddings. They're all the rage right now, so they're pretty pricey.

How many people on your guest list? $30,000+ sounds about right though.

Hi Sarah, I am also in Ma. I don't know those places but I do know that we are getting married at Gillette Stadium and Its only running us about $10,000 for all of that included as well. It has a lot to do with your guest count. We are staying under 50 guests. More guests, more money.

When I was looking at venues here in NYC most venues were $30,000 and that didn't include food and alcohol.

@Ashley, keep looking. We're hosting a wedding that includes food, alcohol, and the venue for about $20k (86 guests) in Manhattan.

I think it all depends on the area. I am having a wedding in New Jersey, and for 165 guests, we're looking at about 30-32K just for the venue (including food, alcohol, deserts) It is also a Sunday wedding. Had it been a Saturday wedding, the numbers would be almost doubled, as Saturdays at my venue cost about 100$ more pp.

I also looked at those venues--LOVE. I priced out Smith and thought it was quite reasonable. (If you're looking to save a bit more, I would recommend looking farther west. Zukas Hilltop in Spencer is beautiful, inexpensive, and in very high demand.)

That sounds about right - I'm in CT. From what I know of Beverly, it's a very nice area. I went to a wedding years ago there, but it was a small wedding and I think it was in a mansion. $30,000 is pretty average.

We are doing a DW at the beach and the cost for 40 will be 40k. That sounds like it is very inexpensive to me.

    Hey!

So I'm an MA resident, but my wedding will be in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine. Mostly because it's our favorite location on Earth and I've always wanted a mountain wedding, but it's also much less expensive up there than it is in MA.

Our venue is Hardy Farm (the barn) over the border in Fryeburg, Maine and our ceremony site is on top of Cathedral Ledge in NH. It was $3500 to rent the barn (and entire grounds) on a Sunday night and the place is absoluetely stunning.

Our whole wedding is coming in at a little over $10k for 110 guests, and this includes a catered BBQ buffet, DJ, beer and wine provided by us. Then of course the rest like photographer, cake, attire, some light decor, etc.

I'm DIY'ing all of the decor and various other things, which can be seen here:

I attached pictures of Hardy Farm below.

I'm a western MA bride I'm paying 5k for 85 guests ,but we are having it at a country club. I would keep looking. Try wedding Expo's or a wedding magazine.

@ALC Haha it's ok. After looking around we decided to have a destination wedding in Las Vegas. It's more affordable and more fun!

I'm in RI and when all is said & done, our wedding will be about $25k for 125 people. I'm getting married at a garden. I looked into some barn-style venue and they got pretty pricey. It sounds a little high from what I remember, but not too crazy.

@mrsfallbride it was just a comment based on an observation. Is that a problem for you?
