Readings for the Elopement

MrsHulet, on July 12, 2016 at 3:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

I am officially 8 weeks away from wedding day! We leave for Alaska on a Sunday and getting married on Tuesday and then get to spend the rest of the week enjoying ourselves hiking glaciers and sea kayaking! We have a DOC and she just emailed to ask about my wedding reading.

To my understanding, the officiant does a reading of our choice and then we get to say our vows to each other and that's that. Is that correct? There's so many ideas we have and so many options. We thought we might even want to incorporate a reading about nature since we're getting married in the meadow between a mountain range so it would be fitting. Anyone have any suggestions for non religious, literary readings? My favorite author is Ellen Hopkins, but a lot of her love quotes are a little somber. All suggestions welcome! Movies, books, or just somewhere to get started. It seems like when I google it, I get the same readings over and over lol

Every officiant is different and every state is different in what they require. You should ask yours what they do and what they'll include.

Then go to my pinterest page; there is a reading board that has 10 other officiants contributing and I can tell you that there are things there you won't see anywhere else.

They sent a few sample scripts and some were cut and dry and to the point and others were a little more elaborate, but all were religious and included things like "Who gives this bride away" and since it's just us, it would be silly to keep things like that in the script.

Thank you! I appreciate your help
