Reading our vows

Aqualeo, on January 10, 2017 at 1:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

My FH really wants us to write our own vows & I'm a little nervous about it. Is it weird if we read it off of a paper? If not what would I do with it while I'm walking down the aisle?

My friend wrote her vows and read them off a paper. She was worried she'd be too emotional to not have them written down, so she just had me carry it down for her since I was the MOH(and also so she didn't have to worry about forgetting to pick them up before walking down-wedding day was definitely a scatter-brained day for her!), it worked out really well since she had to hand me her bouquet anyway. We just did a quick switch!

My friend read hers off of index cards. We gave them to the officiant before the ceremony and he handed them to her and then took them back. It wasn't weird at all.

If you check out Etsy they make some super cute vow books too. I'm planning on reading mine off because I'll probably be crying too hard to remember anything!

I always tell my couples not to even consider memorizing them; you'll be nervous about those two minutes for the whole ceremony and you won't enjoy the rest of it.

I usually print my couples' vows in a little book or on pretty paper and hand them to them when it's time.

My FH and I are writing ours on paper. I do not want to stress about memorizing them on our big day. I'm sure there will be other things to worry about.

Our officiant takes our vows and gets them printed on really pretty parchment paper to read during the ceremony, and then takes them back. We don't have to worry about forgetting but we also have nice keepsakes of them for after the wedding

Our photographer gave us a gift basket when we hired her and she had these cute vow notebooks in there! Maybe try looking for something like that?

Thank you everyone for your advice. Yes I definitely want to read them off of something not memorize - no way! I never thought of having someone hand them to me - duh lol.

I will look into the etsy vow books that sounds nice!

I just bought these for us. Thought it would look nicer than regular paper, but truthfully no one probably notices that kind of thing.

I hold the vows until that point in the ceremony. Then I had them to the couple. Like Celia, I print them onto pretty paper.
