Re: Jack & Jill

James to Be ♥, on June 6, 2011 at 4:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I was thinking about having a jack & Jill but the n i figured that it wasnt necessary because I probably would spend more money on the actual event rather than make money for the wedding. But i could be wrong because i dont really know alot about jack and jills.

-Has anyone had a jack and jill? If so did it really help to raise money for the wedding?

-Where do you have it?

-What do you do there?

-Should i have one?

So I looked up Jack and Jill and this came up:

Jack and Jill party: a gathering of males and females, who masturbate in front of each other for mutual stimulation and enjoyment. (Generally looking is encouraged but touching is not.)

(Apparently there is more than one definiton of Jack and Jill) lol.

@pink lol. Jack and Jill usually refers to having both the bride and groom at an event , liek jack and jill shower, bach party etc..

Theresa, do you mean like a Stag and Drag or Buck and Doe? Ya I didn't think of having one, not quite sure how that works. I dunno to me I just would be uncomfortable having parties to try to raise money to have others pay for my wedding..although I do know at least in my area they are relatively common and by no means would I object to ever going to one or think it tacky.

I had one, my family took care of most of it. I had people offering to make food, we rented a hall, I used the dj that i'm using for my wedding. We did a raffle which people donated lots of stuff to, mainly booze. It was pretty much a giant party with friends and even people I didnt know because we sold tickets and friends sold them to their friends. I've heard of people playing games and whatnot but we didnt do that, we just had a good time with our friends. I would say we made out pretty well, it paid off our dj and photographer. But jack & jills are common in my area some people cringe over them.

Ab Z, I agree thats why i asked because a couple of yeas ago i was invited to one but i didnt go because I figured it was tacky also, BUT GET THIS she invited me to the jack and jill after she had already told me that i wasnt invited to the wedding because of "limited space" I was so turned off from the fact that she tried to make me help pay for a wedding that im not even invite to!!!!!

If it's a STAG then usually some of the people AREN'T invited to the wedding. Like it was said before- it's a way to help raise money for the wedding. Some people buy tickets and don't even actually GO to the party. Some people like to donate and that's it. Don't take it personal, that's how most of them are ...

I have never heard of this before! I'm sure everyone around here would think I was crazy if we did something like that. What area of the country is this common?

Seems alot of people dont know what this is... Its very common in Ontario but doesnt seem to be common in the States.

I Just had my Stag and Doe (jack and jill/buck and doe)

We had it a the Legion Hall (can be done at any hall/church large rental space)

We let the legion do the bar (some people get the liquor licence buy their booze and do the bar themselves...you make more this way)

We rented some Games... A penalty Box, Crown and Anchor, and a golf game

We had 2 grand prizes ( Stocked bar fridge and a BBQ with utensil set)

We had about 15-20 Large raffle prizes

We had about 40 small door prizes

we raffled off a lottery board (bristol board with $50 worth of lottery tickets taped to it)

We raffles off a 60oz of whisky

and to create ease at the door we bundled all of the raffle items into a Package that we sold at the door for $40

We also had a Texas Mickey for a toonie toss

I had each member of the wedding party make food selecrion of hot and cold for aprox 200 ppl.

We booked a Dj he was Fantastic announcing games and prizes and keeping all ages up on the dance floor all night

We sold tickets for $10 this way if someone didn't wish to attend they could still buy a ticket without breaking the bank. Selling tickets is KEY if you dont sell them people wont come. We sold 400 and had about 200 people show up.

We made about $8,000 from the stag and doe...

i have heard people say that if you do a stag and doe you dont have a shower or bachlorette, but we will be having everything ( I dont know any bride that doesnt do it all).

I've heard if these although I have never been to one. My father went to one recently, it was for a cousin of a guy he plays pool with so anybody that is willing to pay is invited. He paid $30 for admission. He says that they had casino games (costing money) and a cash bar (more money!) but they supplied a DJ, food, and entertainment. He won a raffle prize of a junky portable DVD player. Bottom line - probably the tackiest thing I have ever heard of.

I understand why people do them, weddings in my area average $26000 - $30000 and not everyone has that kind of money. But it just doesn't sit right with me. If you need to fundraise for your wedding maybe you should scale down your ideas and plan within your budget.

It seems to be more of a Canada thing.

I'm not sure how big of a turn out you would have if people are not used to it, or don't understand the reasoning behind it. I actually think it sounds like a ton of fun, and would love to attend one... I'm just not sure if there would be any profit.

I didn't know that the intention of a jack/jill party was to raise money for the wedding....interesting. The FI and I are having a jack and jill type of bachelor/bachelorette party, but we're not trying to raise money for the wedding. We're just considering it our bachelor and bachelorette parties together. We're going to go to Dave and Busters (a gaming/food type place). Everyone is paying for their own food and alcohol if people want to drink (no tickets for admission or anything) and my sisters already told me they are putting "Gag gifts only" on the invites and she told me she was getting us a blow up sheep or something LOL. So though we're not providing the food and alcohol, we're not making money off of it either. It's interesting what I learn on WW.
