Re: dancing on grass

I’ve posted similar before but wanted to get more opinions and explain the situation a little better. So our venue is at a barn. There is a beautiful ceremony area under a big tree, so that is covered. Now we have a field and a small barn to do dinner and dancing as well as DJ setup. The barn is not big belong to seat everyone and have room for dancing.

my original “vision” was dinner inside the barn, with string lights and the buffet. It would all look beautiful. Then dancing just outside the barn in the field. It is kinda grassy kinda not if that makes sense. We can’t afford to rent a dance floor at this point. There would be four wooden poles (if that makes sense) with string lights across as well, with hay bales and cocktail tables surrounding sort of shaping the dance floor. There is a cemented overhand thing where the DJ setup would be perfect. We are also going to offer the cute flip flop favor things for ladies in heels (either way.) would you make dancing on the grass? Is this too cheap and unplanned looking? If I went to a wedding I wouldn’t think it was weird. Our wedding is small, less than 50ppl, and I think most all of our guests are kick of their shoes type.

the other option is tables for dinner outside in the little field area, and dancing inside the barn. I think the size of the barn wouldn’t be best for everyone to see B&G/Daddy&Daughter/Mother&Son dances.

Clearly I am more set on dancing outside so I just wanted your guys opinions on this!! She sprays regularly and says there is no problems with ants.

the venue just stared doing weddings this month!! She just had her first on the 20th!! So I am hoping to see a few before October comes and see what they all come up with.

Would you you mind dancing on grassy-ish field? Would this put you off?

I will I’ll try to add pics in comments to show a little better

This is basically the field. The barn to the left is the one we are using. The shaded/cemented area is here the DJ would be

Let me just say I LOVE your venue! I'm having my wedding on a farm and I just love it.
The only thing I would be worried about is if it rains close to the wedding, the ground will be all muddy and wet..
I know you said you can't rent a dance floor, but I would try and see if you could have the patio/shaded area be the dance floor and put the DJ in there too?
I'm renting a big tent and renting a dance floor just because I can't predict the weather.

I wouldn't want to dance on dirt or grass. The surface is just too uneven. Have dinner outside and the dancing inside.

I think that sounds nice. However, what are you going to do if it rains? I think you should budget for a tent, just in case. And it would need to go up before any rain falls, or folks would be dancing in wet grass/mud. Praying for sunshine!

I think this is beautiful! I would only be ok with dancing on the grass if it was acceptable to wear boots to your wedding. I don't like being in the grass for extended periods of time if I do not have closed to shoes on.

I don't think dancing on the grass is a good idea. It can be slippery and/or uneven causing a risk for guests to slip and fall. It is also dirty and would mess up guests' nice shoes. If the women wore the flip flops their feet may get really dirty.

The covered area is smaller than the pics make it look lol it’s not big enough for dancing. I was thinking maybe a tent!! I am trying to see if we can squeeze a dance fooor into the budget but no luck yet 🤣

I don't know if an EZ up would work, but maybe you could find a larger EZ up and see if that could work as a cover, but I'd say to keep it up at least over night if you can

Just curious...how much is it to rent a dance floor in your area?

They do have some DIY ones one Pinterest.
