Rapid covid testing for weddings??

Dj Tanner, on January 13, 2021 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 2 53
Just wondering if any other brides have reached out to their local officials or venues to ask if they’d allow you to purchase rapid testing for all of your guests? I had reached out and questioned and the most I’ve heard was that they were working on this but I have yet to hear anything else.

I haven't, and no one I know has but I will give a little warning before you decide on doing them.

My FH works at a lab and they have been running COVID testing since the beginning of the pandemic. They've all expressed how the rapid tests are not the way to go since they're not nearly as accurate as the swabs are. I think it also comes down to whether or not your guests will accurately swab themselves to get a correct reading.

If you still want to go that route then that's fine, and it's nice of you to consider everyone's health and offer to have tests available! Just something to think about before you decide!

Yep, I am aware that they are not totally 100% accurate as no tests are,But I also feel that if my guests have any concerns they simply don’t need to attend which would be totally understandable. I also feel that if we are allowing these tests at many other places, that are deemed essential, we should also be allowing these tests to be given at weddings, seeing as how many of us had signed our contracts before this whole Covid pandemic even happened but now we’re stuck in a contract with these rules that we Would have never signed off on if we knew there was going to be a major pandemic

I gotcha and I understand how you feel about making them available. I think if they weren't so expensive per test, then more places like wedding venues etc. would be more willing to offer them. It's frustrating and upsetting reading forums on here, and seeing the numerous amount of couples that have had to make crazy adjustments that they never would've imagined.

For my friends wedding, we had to get our tests before the wedding. Maybe getting something to test guests temperature will be easier, along with them doing a test prior to wedding?

Actually, Abbot makes five dollar rapid tests. I have already reached out to them and they said that they would be more than willing to assist but it would require approval from our state.

When is your wedding? At this point you may as well wait until people can show proof of vaccinations- a covid rapid test really means nothing.

Well how do your guests feel about the tests? I ask because I have a friend who does not trust the test at all and would not take it to travel so I know she would not take a test to attend someone's wedding. Plus can you afford? I paid $100 for one and that is with insurance.

I’m curious to know because I’m sure others may feel the same way and I’m interested in hearing your opinion on why a rapid test before entry means nothing?

For the most part all of my guests have been very receptive to it. We are trying to stress to our guests though that if they have any concerns and feel uncomfortable at all they can definitely RSVP no as it would be entirely understandable. As far as information that we’ve received thus far our rapid tests would not cost nearly as much as that. When you take your rapid test they are also charging for processing fees, the employees, and the company etc. The cost would be much lower and the fact that if I have to push out my wedding, all of my vendors will be charging me about 1000+ as well as my venue itself, so no matter how much it costs it’s practically going to balance out at this point. But we are still working with our state to try to make this all possible.

With a 40% accuracy rate, I guess it’s slightly better than nothing? There’s also an incubation period so someone could catch covid the day of your wedding but wouldn’t test positive for several days. I think this idea of rapid tests for entry has been glamorized by the Kardashians of the world, it makes people “feel” more comfortable but isn’t actually a safe or effective tool to have a party.

I think the bigger issue here is that even if everyone takes a rapid test and tests negative, that doesn’t mean they are actually negative so it’s basically just a false sense of security that everyone is fine. If all your guests believe everyone in the room is negative, will they be more likely to let their guard down and end up possibly being exposed anyway?

You lucky ducky lol. Yeah I felt it was ridiculous but I wanted one post honeymoon esp since we had some money left over. Looking back the three day would have been fine.

Yes.. so the 48% false negative rate you’re referring to is the initiative rapid tests that came out. They now have a 90% accuracy which is why they are now acceptable forms if testing again. And I’m not too sure why you’re referring to the “Kardashians “as glamorizing rapid testing… I think science is a great thing and I think when we can improve on things to improve the lives that we live it’s only positive. But again I really appreciate your opinion because I know that others will have the same opinion and I am just trying to be more aware of what others feel. So thank you for commenting

And with that argument, I think we can say that maybe airplanes should be shut down to. But as far as my 75 to 90 person wedding… I think it’s probably a strong possibility that there won’t be any sort of outbreak there if we do rapid testing on site. Especially if we maintain all of the rules. I’m not saying we’re going to be on top of each other making out. I’m simply saying that we will have outdoor dancing remaining 6 to 12 feet apart. Passed hors d’oeuvres, cake cutting. We basically won’t be breaking any rules. At that point we will just be allowed to implement same rules that others establishments are allowed to have. For example… Zumba classes are allowed to remain as long as people stay 6 feet apart. So I don’t understand why my outdoor wedding cannot safely have 6 to 12 feet apart dancing. I mean it’s by the ocean so I don’t understand what the differences compared to an indoor/outdoor Zumba class. Also Dave n busters is allowed to have their games. I don’t understand whyI guess aren’t allowed to stand up outdoors during the spring time by the water if we’re taking those extra precautions. It’s not like my venue is indoors or in the closet. It’s outside by the ocean.

I think we all just need to follow the science right now… The science says that these tests are accurate enough to be used. Therefore, they should be used at weddings. With the argument that you’re making why are we even allowed to go in supermarkets at this point? I think my wedding is taking enough precautions… Masks… 6+ feet… All we’re asking for is 6 to 12 feet apart dancing which will be outdoors by the ocean masked. On top of having rapid tests I don’t think that’s too much to ask and I think it’s actually a lot safer than your indoor Zumba class that they are allowing currently

I guess this depends on where you live so that’s where my opinion is coming from. Where I live, Zumba classes aren’t happening, gyms aren’t open, and restaurants can’t have more than 25% capacity and people can’t be walking around in the restaurant when you’re there. People can’t have more than 10 people at an indoor gathering or 25 people at an outdoor gathering regardless of space.

Indoor Zumba is definitely not allowed and your numbers are incorrect but as myself and PP noted they do absolutely provide a false sense of security which it sounds like you are seeking.
