RANT: Groomsmen has gone MIA, Groom doesn't want him in the wedding party anymore

Becoming A Mrs!, on February 16, 2016 at 10:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

So my FH doesn't want one of his groomsman to be a groomsman anymore. FH and GM have been friends for 15 years. FH asked him to be in our wedding. I invited GM to FH's birthday party last november and haven't seen him since. Apparently he never responds to calls, texts, or emails anymore. There is a long story involving money between my FH, and the GM, but to make a long story short, GM stole $2,500 that was meant to be for FH. Which is why I am assuming he has gone MIA. Anyways, my FH does not want him to be in our wedding party anymore, but we can't get ahold him to tell him. FH doesn't even want to invite him to the wedding anymore! Its just a messed up situation. Also we tried telling the friend that we really need that money to use towards our wedding, and he just doesn't seem to care.

Sorry, I just had to rant about this!

Okay, so my FH's friend (different friend) owed him $150 bucks. He (his friend) was in Vegas and my FH asked him to put it towards a bet. Well he ended up winning the $2,500. The GM was with this friend in Vegas, and GM took the money home to give to my FH- since he lives closer to us than the other friend. Well he never gave my FH the money, said that it doesn't really make a difference because its not like it was his money in the first place, he just won it in a bet. So its not like he directly stole $2,500 from us, but that money was money that FH had won in Vegas.

Nah- that's straight stealing- if you asked someone to place a bet - and you won- then it's yours. I'd honestly share with said person who did the work- but that was super douchy.

Best friend isn't a best friend- I say cut your losses and run.

Lol what? The groomsman said it doesn't matter because it was just money from a bet? Sure as hell matters to him apparently. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother trying to get ahold of him anymore. He probably isn't planning on being in your wedding anymore anyway and if he reaches out later tell him then. Stealing $2500 is a friendship ending move in my eyes.

ETA: honestly even stealing $150 could be friendship ending too. A friend that steals anything from you is a shitty friend.

Forget finding him to tell him he's not in the wedding. How about finding him to kick his ass?

Yea...he pretty much stole the winnings. But technically you can't lose what you never had. He lost $150, and a friend.

Money seems to make people do some ugly things!

Wow so I guess that money was more important than their 15 yr friendship. I say don't invite him

It's the principal tho... $2500 worth. How much does it cost to replace some missing teeth?

I wouldn't even worry about finding him, I'm sure at this point he doesn't even think he's invited anymore! I know the whole situation sucks, because lets be honest who couldn't use $2,500 while planning a wedding, but I'd just try and move past it.

Crystal- thats hilarious! When I found out that it was 2500 he stole, and not the 150, I wanted to find him just to punch him in the face for stealing that much money that could be used towards our honeymoon or to upgrade something at our wedding!

That really sucks, but I guess it is better in the end and less headache for you and FH. Just out of curiosity, has anyone else heard from him since November? My first thought was something happened to him (other than wanting to deck him for stealing your FH's winnings)

This may sound harsh, but have you and FH considered filing criminal charges and getting the police involved?

Erica- I thought the same thing when we first didn't hear from him for a while, but he is active on social media.

Yeah, we don't really care about the money at this point anymore and have chucked it up as a loss. Plus their friendship is done. I just wanted to rant a bit cuz its a frustrating situation.

    Wow that's a crappy situation.

I wouldn't even bother trying to get a hold of him just to tell him he's not invited to the wedding much less a GM.
