Rant: Get your ish together Michaels!!

Monica, on August 1, 2019 at 10:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

DIY bride here, I started buying my wedding stuff right away as soon as we set our date because my plan is to have a full cost estimate by September). You would think its a good thing but now my items that Im using are disappearing from the shelves! Some items aren’t available to ship which means buy online/pick up in store BUT it will only allow me to purchase the quantity available in store. Theres only ever 2 or 3 max available in store. So I have to buy 1-3 items at a time and check back when theres more. And when i check again now the items are OUT OF STOCK with no orders on the way to replenish their shelves. I HAVE HAD TO MAKE LIKE 4-5 SEPARATE PURCHASES AND I STILL DONT HAVE THE QUANTITY I NEED. The only option is to travel to multiple cities to different Michaels stores buying up their instore items (IF theres any available).

Heres the items that I need:

-White Damask Vellum Paper for my invitations. I bought 15 peices on 2 different trips & I still need at least 20 more

-David Tutera mercury gold candlesticks. I bought 4 on 3 different trips and I need 6 more. I love love the gold ones the most! See pictures

-David Tutera gold votives. I bought 1 box and I need 3 more.

The meme: Right side: Literally me like HOW DO U EXPECT ME TO GET THESE WEDDING DECORATIONS FIGURED OUT IF YOU WONT TAKE MY MONEY AND LET ME BUY YOUR ITEMS.

Left side: Michaels not giving a F

Those are some really amazing centerpieces by the way. I feel for your frustration. Is there any other place you can get similar items such as Joanns or hobby lobby ?

Sample Invitations on the vellum paper. Its subtle but I think it adds an extra touch. Probably going to have to buy the plain vellum instead.

Can you just find an alternative that you can order online? I guess I understnd the frustration, but unfortunately retailers can only stock so many of each item. If you buy them all, well, that's it. I wouldn't travel to multiple stores looking for it, I would just find something else that had more availability if it's that much of an issue.

The ones that they had in store were a different color. Technically I could use them but then my centerpieces wont match. I understand that stores can only stock a certain number of items but it’s frustrating when everytime I try to purchase I only walk away with 1 or 2 items at a time.

Omg this is what I'm terrified of when I start naming everything. I guess I would just try to buy from other stores to get what you need if you really want everything to match. I would make that into a fun roadtrip! And that meme was perfect lmao.

If the votives you're looking for are just the gold mercury glass style votive holders that look like oversized shot glasses, check Hobby Lobby and/or the non-David Tutera section of Michaels. I got silver ones for our centerpieces that look identical to the David Tutera ones, but aren't his brand and were even cheaper. I'm pretty sure I got them at Hobby Lobby, but there's a small chance they were actually with all the glass containers at Michael's.

I would also check Facebook marketplace too. Sometimes you can find exactly what you are looking from other brides you might have bought it for their weddings. Good luck!

I feel your pain, LOL. It's hard for me to get to the store so I don't feel like having to make multiple trips. I just want to get my projects done!

    Your centerpieces look great, btw.

I had to do the same thing with the birch rounds in my centerpieces. I cleared out 3 stores in my area lol.

But as someone who worked at Michaels in college, they do have reasons for this.

    1) Stock room size. The stores have to be able to keep everything on the shelves on top of seasonal items waiting in the back so real estate is limited.

    2) Demographics. Stores are only given what corporate thinks they need based on demographics and buying trends.

It sucks, I know, but stores don't have much control over their inventory.
