Raise center stone ?

Kamila, on June 19, 2015 at 4:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

My fiancé wants to me to raise the center stone my my engagement ring. I like the way my ring looks, but I agree it could use some depth. I am worried if I raise the stone that there will be a gap between the mount and the stone though. Any thoughts ? Raise or keep the same ? The center is 1 carat.

Keep it the same. It looks good and I wouldn't want the jeweler to mess it up. Also, if it is raised it will get caught on more things and metal is not as durable as the stone.

My diamond is raise and personally it annoys me. As Sarah said, things do get in the gap between the diamond and metal so I have to constantly clean my ring. Do you even know if a jeweler can raise the diamond on your setting? I would get a couple of opinions.

I agree with the other girls. I would keep it the same. It will get be much more likely to get caught on things with center raised up out of the halo. Personally, I love how it is flat from the side view, but I do think the difference in the square halo /round center gives it an element of depth already.

I think it looks pretty as is. Raising it would make it higher and you would be banging into and getting caught on more things.

Keep it as is. The halo look is suppose to have the center diamond surrounded by the other diamonds. If he doesnt like the look why did he just buy a solitaire or something similar then?

I think it's fine the way it is, if you are comfortable then leave it. That being said, mine is raised and yes, it gets caught on more than my flat band rings but I love it. I like that it stands out from the stones around it, and I've figured out how to keep my ring from catching most times.

Mine's raised and I have to agree that while it's pretty, so much crap gets caught underneath the stone. I have to clean it weekly, otherwise the center stone starts to look dull. Just a thought.

Keep it the same, mine is slightly raised and I'm always hitting it on stuff. I've already had to have it sent off to have a prong around the stone replaced.

I have a similar setting and my stone is about the same size. I love having a low setting and I think yours is pretty the way it is. Why does he want you to change it?

Don't lower it. I think it's lovely as it is! I prefer stones that are flush with the setting and had my own lowered.

I think raising it will cheapen the look of the ring. Mine was raised when I first got it, and I had it lowered because I kept scratching myself and getting it caught on everything. It's much more tolerable now.

I wouldn't mess with it, as others noted it would likely just be a hassle and potentially cause problems with snagging, etc... Especially if you like it the way it is. Though he gave it to you, it is your ring and you are the one that wears it everyday, so go with what you like best.
