Rain and Advice to Ease Anxiety?

Orange_Mellen, on March 9, 2018 at 4:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I'm getting married next Sunday (super excited and everything is pretty much in place!) and looking at the weather forecast is really depressing. The wedding is in Southern California and we've been getting rain lately and it is forecasted to rain all throughout my wedding weekend. We have a rain plan in place, so that is not the issue. It's not ideal to have the ceremony inside but it will be beautiful either way.

The issue I have is that I am getting anxiety about all of our out-of-towners getting here okay and I feel bad that they're traveling all the way to California and we will have crappy weather. I know what happens with the weather is out of my control, but the lack of control and the unknown is daunting. Anyone else struggling with and have anxiety about weather issues? Any tips on how to ease the anxiety?

If it helps at all, it was supposed to rain on my wedding day when we were about a week out and as it got closer, the forecast changed and we had the best weather all week. Invest in some cute umbrellas just in case.

My wedding was threatened by a hurricane the whole week and then we had a gorgeous day. But talking about the potential for bad weather and looking at the forecast was stressing me out, so I told everyone not to talk to me about the weather, and I stopped checking it for that whole week leading up to it. So that's my advice, stop talking about it and harping on it, because like you said, you have a solid backup plan, but beyond that, it's out of your control, so IMO, not worth the energy thinking about it. It'll be what it'll be, and you'll have a beautiful wedding regardless!

We are in an area where snow is unpredictable in the beginning of spring. And even though our wedding is planned to take place indoors i really really dont want snow.. Hoping for outdoor pictures that day. Im trying not to stress and when i find myself upset i have a classical cd to listen to always helps relax me. Just breathe and know that in the end rain snow or sun that your marrying the love of your life.

Lol. I'm also in California (East bay), and have similar concerns. But I imagine guests are going to be understanding if their is rain. But for stress I would recommend 5 minute meditations. I have some intense anxiety problems and meditation does wonders for me.

Quit checking the weather forecast is the #1 thing!!!!

Your guests will be just fine, they won't be blaming you for the weather either Smiley tongue

It's still a week out, the weather could very well change between now and then.

Just keep telling yourself there's nothing you can do and you have better things to focus your mind on!

Anxiety is rough, I use the Calm app as well. Try that to ease the anxiety more!

I feel for you, I'm getting married on the 24th and we're planning to sail, so if it rains it's going from "Fly out to CA for an amazing sailing experience!" to "Fly out to CA and hang out at a museum" for our out-of-towners. Yes, the museum is nice and it's a decent backup plan but it's just not the same. -_-

I'm getting married in Central California next Saturday and have been checking the weather often. The thing that I am finding is that the weather forecast for that day is changing so often, it is stressing me out for no reason. I stopped checking the weather and decided to just wait until a day or two before. If it rains, there's nothing I can do. Regardless, I will be getting married and that is all I care about.

I’ve been to weddings when it rained all day and the skies opened up for the beautiful sunshine. You’ll have a fabulous wedding either way.

I've always heard that rain on your wedding day is good luck! It rained on the day of my parents' wedding, but it wasn't an issue (other than apparently some of their co-workers who said they were coming no-showed - their wedding was also in southern California, lol) and they've been married for 29 years now! I'm sure everything will work out fine.

Im getting married nxt Sunday as well , west coast cali, im worried about rain too. I just keep praying for the best. My aunt says that it is an old wives tale, that if it rains on your wedding day it is supposed to be good luck! That made me feel a little better 💜 Good Luck!
