Raffles for fiancés stag

Erica, on May 19, 2018 at 9:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Hey all!

So im helping my fiancé with a couple things for his stag party, and we were talking about raffle prizes and what guys actually want and look for in raffles.

Any thoughts or comments on good raffle ideas or any comments from your fiancée/husbands from theirs?

Thanks!

You're having people pay for your wedding by buying raffle tickets? Where are you getting the raffle items from?

    and where do you live?

Why can't they just go out and have a good time?

I’m in Rhode Island and here these parties are really common too.. from what I’ve heard most raffle gifts are liquor baskets, cigars, and different type of gift certificates

Raffle bottles of liquor (they buy ticket to win when tickets call they go up and get their pick- saw at jack and jill last week and it got a lot of attention), lotto tree, tools, gift cards etc. say this setup at a jack n jill went to a few weeks ago seems easy enough to do. Rum and coke....

Excuse my ignorance, what's a stag party?

I live a few hours north of you in Southern Massachusetts, but I never heard of this.

It's a Male only party where the guy get together play games, eat, drink etc. It like a Male version of bridal shower is what I like to call it

Oh, I think a raffle would be a great idea, as long as they are not paying to enter the raffle.

That's how stag and jack and jill parties work. That's what we do in NY and NJ and a lot of other places.

$35 bucks to go to a party on a Friday night with a few guys and maybe win a beer cake??? I honestly couldn't watch that whole video, It was upsetting me

    oh. my. gosh.

I don't like this. seems like a way to get money.

I live in Massachusetts and I never heard of a "stag" on Jack and Jill party, but anything you got to pay "to get in" is a no go in my opinion.

Again not everyone has it as high as 35$ but then again this is big out here and not in others. To each their own. But it's a huge celebratory thing for them men for those who can and cannot make the wedding its their way of supporting. I know in my family and fiance and our families are huge and its expected.
ps. stag (men only) and a jack n jill (everyone)

to each their own you do what best for you

It’s literally a party to get people to give you money for the wedding, and a lot of times people are invited to these even if they aren’t invited to the wedding. Basically it’s a fundraiser, and the bride and groom are the cause. Some social circles have them up here in northern MA (though they’re always co-ed and our friends/family don’t do them) and it’s ridiculous.

That's so weird. I thought it would have been something I would have heard of being from the area. but maybe it s a Socioeconomics thing, my family would decline a kind of fundraiser party like that. However, I do expect my family will come to a bridal shower and will provide a nice monetary gift during the wedding.

My FH is having a mens BBQ the day of my shower, but its free to come ( hes providing meat and everyone can byob ) and there's no gift exchange or money expected. , , more like something to do while the girls do their thing.

Your family sounds very similar to mine. We don’t throw them, we don’t attend them, but everyone attends the shower (with a physical gift) and everyone gives money at the wedding. The guys usually do their own thing during the shower- sometimes they go golf, sometimes they just watch the game, sometimes they go eat, etc.

I’m from Connecticut also. People pay $20-$30 but get free drinks and food all night and a chance to win raffles. I think they’re a good time. And don’t see anything wrong with it. I would definitely do a liquor basket, date night basket, wine basket, maybe a lottery ticket one.

Does your partner or his friends like gaming? Perhaps you could make a gaming basket, with Doritos and soda snacks, and a gift card Game Stop or a similar store in your area.
