Quick vent - why do guests want to wear the wedding colors?

The Sealpups, on August 26, 2019 at 6:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I purposely made sure my bridesmaids stood out. I'm having them wear a mix-match neutral palette and did not tell anyone but the bridesmaids. Knowing my FH's family, they are so stuck on bridesmaids wearing ONE color, therefore that will be the official wedding color, which means they can all wear that color.

I told FH's family (and our mothers) that the colors are mauve - that way they can all be "uniform"with a family color and my bridesmaids can still stick out and be "bridesmaids". I feel uncomfortable having certain family members think they're wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids and having people confuse them as part of my bridal party.

I sometimes thinks it’s to fit in and not feel weird by wearing another color

I think you're worrying too much about it.

The only color that folks can almost universally agree is inappropriate to wear as a wedding guest is white.

Omg last year I was mortified when I showed up at my cousins wedding in a navy dress and her bridesmaids were in navy. I had honestly thought they were wearing champagne and rose gold hues- then I realized that was my other cousin 🤦🏼‍♀️ I apologized profusely she just laughed and said hey if one of her bridesmaids goes down I could stand in.
I couldnt imagine intentionally dressing in their colors.

If someone wants to wear the wedding colors, I don't mind. My mom was so concerned about accidentally liking a dress that was burgundy (at the time we went to look for her dress the colors were burgundy and gold). She ended up choosing a navy blue dress. Weeeellllllll the theme has now changed to a harry potter theme, so navy blue is now one of the main colors xD oh well.

My FMIL literally told me she wanted to wear my wedding colors to match my wedding party.... I had to steer her away from that like the point is for them to be different don't match them. Took me awhile to get her to find a different color but at least that's dealt with

Ugh I have been going through the same thing! My mom, his mom, and all of the grandparents/aunts have wanted to know every detail so they can match. My grandpa even got mad at me because I didn’t invite him to get matching suits with the guys...why?! I then took him shopping and he was literally mad the entire time because I was picking things that weren’t my colors. Excuse me!

My family is pretty much doing the same thing. I’m not even having a bridal party but they know what colors I’m using for decor and choose to match with two of the colors in my pallet. At first I didn’t care if my siblings did it because they will coordinate for a family picture but now my whole side of the family wants to match and FH’s family isn’t in on it. I’m worried it might look weird. Oh well, wedding is on Saturday. No stopping them now.

I always ask because I want to avoid either clashing or wearing the same color.
