Quick questions on seating chart

Sally, on October 6, 2014 at 1:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

We're not doing anything fun like book or movie titles for table numbers, just plain old numbers!

So now for my very stupid questions:

1-Do we include the head table in the table numbers? We'll be having our bridal party and their dates at the head table (sorry if that's weird, worked for us, we want to be with them and we don't want to separate them from their dates), so should we include the head table in the number system? If so does it need to be the first table?

Is there any sort of etiquette concerning the numbers? As in: should my parents' table be numbered before FH's parents table or vice versa? (and any other rules I should know about)

That's all thanks!

From what I have seen, the head table is not included in the numbering system. Obviously your bridal party knows that is where they are sitting, but let their dates know as well. As far as parent tables go, I put my mother at table 1, FH's mother at table 2, and FH's father at table 3, (his parents are divorced).

I didnt over think it or anything and there isnt any special meaning to the order of the tables they are it.

I would include a head table number since your BP and guests will be there.

When we were numbering our tables we labeled my in-law's table as #1 so they would feel special and not make a fuss at being #2 to my parents. If you think one of the sets of parents would make a fuss then labels your tables as such. I think more important than number is placement, making sure both sets of parents are equidistant to the head table.

I am not including the head table and I am using plain boring numbers too.

My parents and grandma will be sitting with FH's parents and grandma and we are starting them at table #1 and going around from there.

My head table wasn't numbered. Everyone who was going to sit at the head table knew before hand. No there aren't any "rules" regarding table numbers. You just will probably want close family/friends to sit somewhere close to the head table. The tables that were closest to our head table were #7 and #4 so that's where our moms and other close family sat.

I wouldn't include the head table....it should be pretty obvious to you're bridal party where they are sitting.

ETA: I didn't see the last part of your question...My mom, stepdad grandparents (her parents) will be sitting at Table One, closest to the head table with my godfather, his date and the rest of my uncles. His parents, grandparents and whomever else he chooses to put will be at Table Two and my dad and aunts on his side will be at Table Three. My parents are divorced too and when there is alcohol involved, they will definitely need a table buffer zone

Me, FH and some bridal party members/dates are at table 1. Some others of the bridal party/dates are at table 2....

My dad is table number 6 and his parents are table number 8 (Those 2 tables are listed as "honorary" tables with our venue)..

Did your venue give you a seating layout? Ours gave us the layout of the room with 16 tables and where they are placed in the room. It helped because we were able to put aunts/uncles NOT in the back corner....
