Question - tipping during a food tasting

Emily, on November 3, 2011 at 4:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

Hey everyone ~ got a question for you. So I just made my appointment for our food tasting. We're allowed to come as a party of 6, so we're both bringing our parents. The guy at our venue said everything is 100% free except they'd appreciate if we'd tip the server. That's totally fine, I'm just not sure what an appropriate tip would be. What do you guys think? 20% of the bill? Except that we won't get a bill. Should I ask what the cost of everything would be if it was not free? Just want to make sure we don't offend our server Smiley smile

Thanks!!

    Hi there Smiley smile

When we went for our tasting, we completely forgot to bring cash with us! I felt terrible! We told the owner and apologized because the server left before we could apologize. but for just us two, i was going to give her a $20. I am really not sure on the proper rules because I dropped the ball on that one!

    Wowsers, what a good question!

I'd say take 6 people times the cost of your wedding meal (without the open bar price) and do 20%.

You could also ask the venue guy what a reasonable tip would be. That is very safe, and I'm sure everyone involved will appreciate that you want to do the right thing.
