Question on meal choices on RSVP card

MrsVoegs17, on March 23, 2017 at 3:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Our menu consists of a BBQ buffet with chicken and pork options. We have talked with our caterer and they can accommodate guests who wish for a vegetarian meal, gluten free, or guests who have any other dietary requirements by serving them a plated meal at the same per person cost as our buffet as long as the number isn't huge. We know all of our guests very well and there are not many that would require a veg/gluten free option, so we don't want to offer this as a meal selection, as adding another meal choice may put us outside of our budget. Is it too tacky to put on our RSVP cards: Please indicate if you have any dietary requirements or require a vegetarian or gluten free option.

If any of our guests select this option, we would contact them and offer them several options to choose from.

Also, to save money, we are putting the cocktail hour/reception information on the invite as well, so we won't have a separate reception card.

Too tacky?

I am no etiquette master, but I think the way you have it is fine.

I think the invite is fine the way you have it and We didnt put anything about dietary restrictions on our RSVP cards ..we have one person that is gluten free and dairy free and she just wrote it on the card herself. We did have a veggie option tho since we are having a plated meal

Ultimately I think both are fine.

I don't know if I would call it tacky, but I think it's too crowded having the whole menu on there. But I have no other suggestion unless you put in a seperate card.

I wasn't sure if I should tell what the meal is, my reasoning behind it was because it's not plated and there's really not an option but I don't want someone to not like chicken or pork and not realize that's what we're serving. Should I remove that part altogether or just remove the sides? It's served buffet style so I wasn't 100% sure the proper way to let our guests know that.

Maybe just put boneless bbq ribs, grilled chicken breast, and sides?

I think having the ceremony and reception information on the invite is a great idea. I am trying to use as few inserts as possible too.

I agree with Felicia, but if you want to I would just put the main dishes.

I would also reword the line to just: Please indicate if you have any dietary restrictions.

For a buffet I personally wouldn't list the menu at all. It does seem a bit odd if you aren't making a selection and does make the RSVP way too busy the way it's listed, but that's just my personal preference.

ETA-Sorry my comment posted prior to the new format you sent. It looks much cleaner now.

You do not need to list your food is your having buffet. Its just confusing.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but don't you need to know WHAT dietary restrictions they have? Maybe having a line after instead of in front so they have space to write in their specific need? If that makes sense...

I think you should slip the menu entirely since it is a buffet. Just put a line that says

    Dietary restrictions:

    ______________________________________________

Then they can fill in what exactly that restriction is.

Your line about dietary restrictions is good. Definitely include that so people can let you know.

I would not include the entire menu on the RSVP card. In fact, for a buffet, typically the menu is not listed. You only need meal options when people have a choice.

I think it looks fine... however, I wouldn't put the menu. I would just put the line about dietary restrictions
