Question for bigger girls getting strapless dresses

Jamie, on March 25, 2017 at 11:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

This might be a terribly ridiculous question, but I've never been able to wear a strapless bra, and most of the dresses I'm seeing are strapless, and I don't think any I've seen are designed to wear an actual bra under. I'm so confused, I don't even think they make strapless bras above a D cup, and I'm a G Smiley sad I'm just wondering how other larger girls have handled this issue.

I'm triple D and was concerned too. I actually got a corset added to the inner dress (it came with padding) so everything stays put and I don't have to wear a bra. The back on the dress has a zipper so nothing shows. I've also seen some dresses with straps that hook like a bra in the back, but for more comfort and piece of mind I think a corset is best. It cost $50 to add

I got cups sewn in to the dress and did not wear a bra. I'm a C cup so not sure if that's plausible with larger breasts.

My dress isn't strapless, but I was recently in a wedding where I was wearing one, and I'm a 34G. I ordered a corset that was a 38D (which is closer to a larger cup size, and had it taken in everywhere. Else. It looked great and I felt secure. The brand I ordered off Amazon was by Dominique.

    Cups won't work.

I hear ya! I am very top-heavy (H cup) and has the same concerns. Straps and sleeves can be added to almost any dress, so go ahead and try on strapless dresses. Most dresses have a lot of structure built in, so you may only need a strapless bra; my seamstress recommend a bustier for max support. Also, a corset back, versus zipper, can be a lot better for busty gals. For me, with the added cap sleeves and bustier, I had zero issues through all the events and dancing. Get the dress you love!

Triple D here and my dress has a built in "seatbelt". It is basically a built in bustier that hooks like a bra does but is then covered by my dresses zipper. It holds the dress up and keeps the ladies in place. I also plan on having cups put in when I do alterations.

Wedding dresses either have cups sewn in or are made to go without one. You need to go to a real department store, like Nordstrom or Dillard's (not Target or Walmart), have a professional fit you and help you find an appropriate strapless bra. Admittedly, I don't know if they come in a G, but it's hard to believe they wouldn't, even if it has to be special ordered. I'm a DD and I had no trouble with strapless dresses (I know not the same thing, but I've had issues with strapless my whole life and it was entirely different with my wedding dress).

I love the thought of sewn in cups (DD); but concerned about support. I'm going with a longline bra.

Bare necessities website carries strapless bras in larger cups! I'm an F/G cup and have found one there.

Also I discovered from my bridal shop (Alfred Angelo) that all of their dresses come with spaghetti straps you can attach to help keep it up, if you opt to have cups sewn in instead of buying a special bra the straps will help keep it up, so definitely ask whatever bridal salon you go to if their strapless dresses come with those.

You could also have the seamstress add some kind of lace sleeve to any strapless dress so you can wear a normal bra and the straps will be hidden.

    Good luck!

Nordstrom's carries bigger cup sizes, 32H here. They're the only place I can find one that fits. They're not super cheap but their definitely worth it. I toyed with the idea of having cups sewn into my dress but ended up deciding on a strapless bra so I had more support. Definitely have them fit you though!

I'm a 34G; there are definitely strapless bras for this cup size. I recommend going to Nordstroms and getting properly fitted. My dress is strapless and I will be wearing a strapless bra just so I feel better.

Please do some practice "dancing" in your dress. check for support. I saw some "girls" pop out of a strapless dress at a wedding. Not a pretty sight.

My dress came strapless. I hate wearing anything strapless so I added sleeves to mine. I did wear a strapless longline bra underneath my dress. Once the dress was altered to fit me, the girls were snug in there perfectly. Also, a longline bra is much better at holding you up because of the boning.

I uSed to be an h cup. Lost over 100 pounds last year so now I'm ddd. However, I got a strapless bra from lane Bryant that is SUPPER supportive and I've ALWAYS been the girl that said I could never wear strapless bras!!!! This bra is amazing. Has 4 hooks which you know is more support and also has these gummy things on the inside that provide extra support too!!! Lane Bryant goes up to h sizes as well! And there are ALWAYS coupons to use!

This bra comes in black too. It comes with straps that you can put on in like 5 different ways or totally remove the straps totally. I would highly recommend it. I'll be wearing mine on wedding day in 19 days!

I have a corset dress so once it was altered and tied it didn't move. Added a strapless long line bra to keep shape. Otherwise I end up with pancaked breasts.

I've heard conflicting information. I'm 34ddd and some will say bra inserts will do nothing and others tell me it's no problem. Ultimately I went with a dress that had straps and boning for comfort. I didn't have faith cups would work when in all my experience my chest has been too large

I am a 34 j and have a strapless dress, it has bra cups, boning and a seatbelt to give it structure, so I am not wearing a bra with it. However, if you are more comfortable with a strapless bra barenecessities.com has great options for us busty ladies.
