Question- Bridesmaid chiffon skirts and tops?

Shannon , on August 23, 2017 at 12:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Trying to decide if this is an option that could be flattering for multiple body types, as well as cost effective and elegant- I also have been veering towards more modern and less traditional in some of the wedding decisions thus far.

It *could be* universally flattering, but I'd suggest having everyone try on the tops and skirts you're thinking of. I'd throw some short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves in the mix for those who may not want to show off their arms. Also, not all necklines will flatter everyone, so maybe have some variation there, too. I'm probably going to use Azazie, David's Bridal, or a similar site, select a few dresses in different styles but in the same color, and let my BMs determine what they feel best in. Some people just let their wedding party pick whatever outfit they want, as long as it stays within a color palette or leave no restrictions at all! Super untraditional and totally modern.

Between my best friend (MOH), sister, FSIL, cousin, and other friend, there are so many different heights and sizes that no one dress would be flattering - was maybe thinking same color skirts but different tops? Like you've suggested, with sleeves or different neck lines- I know it's my day, but I want them to not only feel comfortable, but just as happy and excited as I will be.

I actually just looked into this option last night and I found that just the tulle skirt alone can be just as expensive, if not more, than a traditional bridesmaid dress. Not sure how that is but most reputable websites were not selling them for cheap. I think the look is super cute but then I was thinking its hard enough for me to decide on a single bridesmaid dress! This would require finding a decently priced skirt and a top (or multiple tops) that go with the skirt and that my bridesmaids like. Too much work lol so I'm back to looking at regular dresses.

There are some non traditional/unique bridesmaid dresses out there too like floral print or glittery. Just another option if you are wanting something besides a cookie cutter BM dress.

If I go this route and find that the skirts are too pricey, I am fortunate enough to be able to have my mother and grandmother make them (both are talented seamstresses)- then it would just be the tops to find. I've also toyed with the idea of different floral dresses, or different styles but same color, but then do their hair the same?

It is not elegant. It is very pretty but more for a garden/day wedding.

These are beautiful. But I will say that as someone with a big chest tops like that tend to make me look heavier.

I personally think the same thought behind the outfits applies to hair and makeup: not every style will look good on everyone or work with different hair textures/lengths, and they might not feel their best with a single, chosen style. If you're going for untraditional and modern, the clone look might not fit into that. But if you insist they all have the same hair and makeup, you need to pay for it.

I second @FMG, blousy tops like that tend to make those of us with bigger busts look larger than we are, so this may not be flattering on all body types. If you like the look, I think it's at least worth having your girls try it on.

Honestly I don't love this look. It reads very casual to me, not elegant. I think you can please lots of body types and still have a modern look by choosing a color on Azazie and letting your bridesmaids choose the dress style that suits them best.
