Question about marriage license

Vanessa, on June 14, 2021 at 4:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi all! I have sort of an odd question, and was wondering if any of you have been in this situation before. When I applied for my marriage license, one of the things they asked for was age (not DOB). At the time I was filling it out, my fiance was 31. However by the day of our wedding, his birthday will have passed and he will be 32. I called the clerk's office and explained the situation, and he told me that whatever age he was when filling out the application is correct (so 31 is fine). However, it looks a bit odd considering it says they are uniting us on the date of our wedding and printed right next to his name is the age 31. I just don't want this to become an issue later. Has anyone experienced this? Or have any advice? Thank you in advance!

I would go by what the clerk said. I don’t see why it would be an issue, you don’t use your marriage license as proof of identification anywhere (as far as I know).

Go by what the clerk says! My fiancé and I are in the same boat, and the clerk told us the same - age at the date of applying, not at the wedding. She said it happens all the time.

It's probably just to verify you are over 18 and therefore can get married without parental consent

It’s totally fine- I was 29 when we got our marriage license and 30 when we got married and there have been 0 issues and I’ve used it to change my name over on everything. I wouldn’t worry!

I agree with this, as long as you are over 18 the age doesn't matter.
