Question about ceremony music for outdoor wedding

FH and I are getting married outside, but having an indoor reception. I'm trying to figure out what we should be doing for ceremony music since I would imagine that the DJ's equipment will all be set up inside the reception space. We were not planning on having live music for the ceremony. So what have others done in this scenario? Do you just have an iPod set up with speakers? If so, do we have our DOC press play/stop? Am I missing something completely obvious? I honestly cannot remember what I've seen done at other outdoor weddings aside from one that I remember having a live string quartet (which was lovely, but not in our budget). Thanks!

@Aurelia - our venue has a tenting option for an extra charge if need be. I'm hoping we don't need it, but it's available in case it rains.

Your DJ should be able to work with you- Asides from the reception, They're providing the ceremony music (a mic for the officiant- if need be), music for the cocktail and dinner reception (FH Hates to eat in silence- Haha).

Let the DJ handle it if he offers that option. It was free with our package but I know some djs charge extra for the ceremony time. It won't be as simple as an ipod especially since it's outdoors. You might need speakers, doc could get timings wrong, etc. The DJ does this for a living and most that offer ceremony time also bring the mics for the officiant/couple which is important.

MacToBe, I can usually project well enough for 30 guests because I'm facing them, but usually they can't hear the B&G who are facing each other (and sometimes a bit shy saying their vows).

^ What Nancy said - so much yes. I went to a smaller outdoor wedding and it was windy. Guests beyond the front row couldn't hear anything. I made sure there was a mic and speakers for my ceremony.

My officiant has a mic, and we've also purchased a block rocker speaker to use for music and it includes a mic too. It can be used via bluetooth, so I plan on having my brother start and stop the music by logging him into my spotify (yes, I fully intend to work all this out before the wedding day haha). the speaker will be delivered on 4/6 so I'm excited to test it out! If not my brother, a family friend or my officiants wife have also both offered to handle starting and stopping things.
