Question about alcohol for the budget friendly brides

Tina, on June 1, 2019 at 10:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
My honey and l don't drink so we were planning on no alcohol. BUT now I really want to have at least beer and wine. The ceremony is 5 hours total. So far we will have 78 guest but let's say at least 20 don't drink. Would 1 keg if beer be enough? How much wine do I get? What's the best tasting cost effective wine? What about beer? I don't know anything. Lol. Thanks in advance

Have a look for alcohol calculators online - there are a bunch of them. Also, if you’re buying it yourself, check that the store will let you return unopened cases. I wouldn’t get a keg of beer, I’d get cases of a couple of different ones (I can’t help any more with that because I don’t drink beer). Wine I’d get two whites and two reds - a dryer white and a sweeter one (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc maybe) and then a Pinot noir and maybe a Shiraz or merlot.

I'm doing BYOB. I don't care for etiquette and all that crap anymore. I have no money for that and if they wanna get crap faced, they will get crap faced on their own. I will however get champagne for me and hubby!!

I hear you. That makes sense. I just don't want ppl to come in all extra late trying to stop and grab alcohol or leaving in and out to get it.

I suggest definitely to have some sort of alcohol for guest. In my experiences at weddings people stay longer and are more sociable if their is alcohol! I do think its totally up to you on your preference in having just beer, or beer plus wine. We are having beer and wine provided until ran out and suggested to our personal friends that may want to drink a little more to bring extra if they was wanted to drink a lot. Although most of the time you do not run out because most guest will be more conservative at weddings. Their are calculators online that suggest what to buy based on guest attending but since all of our guest will not be drinking we calculated a little different. I would order within your budget!

I agree with this advice. If you buy from somewhere that lets you returned unopened bottles and/or cases then you can over-purchase a little and not have to worry about running out and not have that stress the day of. I like KiwiDerbyBride's advice on the wine selections. I like beer but I'm rather picky in my selections and pretty much only drink local beers, no 'traditional American' types, so I don't have any specific examples for those. Maybe ask around among your friends and see what they like? Costco has good beer prices but I don't know what their alcohol return policy is (though their return policy in general is awesome). Do you have a BevMo near you?

A great red wine is the Apothic Red Blend, and it is very affordable.

I live in Canada and I've never been to a single wedding with alcohol in it. My family doesn't drink and neither do my friends mostly because of cultural or personal reasons but EVERY wedding was SO fun. If you have a good music playlist and good friends, people will dance or at least have fun REGARDLESS. I honestly think the obsessive alcohol culture is so toxic. The fact that people think they cant have fun without drinking? Over it! oh no, they'll have to socialize sober! how horrible! Nothing against drinking (I myself drink), but I think its ridiculous that people will want to leave early because they can't get drunk.

Honestly, if you can't afford it, don't do it. Don't kill yourself or break your budget over what other people might think. its YOUR day.

Well said. I don't get needing alcohol for everything either. It's so unnecessary but ppl seem to feel the night is incomplete without it. I've decided I'll just get some cost effective wine and call it good. Thanks for chiming in
