Quaker Marriage Certificate

Audra, on June 1, 2017 at 12:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone done a Quaker Marriage Certificate? I found them by chance last night during my late night wedding binge lol. I wasn't planning in having a guestbook (that would just go into a box in storage for ever) but this is a cool way to display our vows and remember our guests. Has anyone done this? Where did you get it done? I attached pics of 2 different styles.

I don't think it would be appropriate to use something that is sacred/of significance in another culture as decoration for your wedding (assuming you're not Quaker).

We did something similar. It's not exactly like this, since we're not Quaker, but it was a declaration that our loved ones had witnessed our union and pledged to support us. We have it framed on our wall, and it's lovely.

    Ours says:

    "On this XX day

of October, two thousand and sixteen,

    Bride

    and Groom

did affirm their commitment to one another by joining as husband and wife.

Their lives are now forever united.

And we, having been present at this marriage, hereby set our hands giving witness to the union

and pledge to support and uphold the couple in their vows to each other."

P.S. Our was done by an illustrator/designer friend for about $50. I imagine you could commission one from a local designer or on Etsy.

I'm with La Grosera. It's inappropriate to use someone else's important traditions as decor.

I will not be using the wording of a true Quaker certificate, just the concept that our vows will be on it, and all our guests will sign it. Their particular vows and wording are sacred to them and I will NOT be using those.

In Addition, I will add that whether religious or not, these certificates are sacred, no matter what tradition or mix of traditions or religions the couple is. They hold the love and support of your family and friends. You give them a physical way to join into your ceremony with their signatures. The certificates are a beautiful reminder of your own love and commitment to each other, and of the support of all those who were present at your wedding. They are nothing less than sacred.
