Putting information on back of invitation

Sara, on October 6, 2014 at 4:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hi ladies,

I'm struggling with whether I should put information (wedding website and RSVP) on the back of my invitation I know you aren't supposed to (according to various etiquette guides) but it seems silly to waste money on enclosure cards (especially when people could easily misplace them). The invitations I like do not have the small business card size inserts. If i try to fit the information all on the front, it looks very cramped. The back has a design on it...it's hard to imagine that people don't look at both sides of an invitation. I know some have made their own website cards, so I could go that route as well. Please let me know what you did. If you put it on the back, did people miss it? Thanks!!!

The back of my invitations have a small amount of details, we are not going super formal so it isn't out of place. (dress code is casual, skip the tux but please skip the flip flops, dinner & dancing to follow, our email for questions or details. no wedding website for us.)

but the rsvp card should be a totally different card to mail back so they can keep the invite with the details.

RSVP card should be seperate but info on alternative RSVP methods is perfectly at home on the back of the invite. Ditto with info on thw wedding website.

I've never heard of it being against etiquette to have that info there and (especially here) inserts and loads of extra pieces with different info are seen as a bit daft if it could have gone on the back of the invite.

EDIT: we're unlikely to be doing a wedding website unless we can incorporate it with some photo apps etc and have the security to make it an online photoalbum too. if we do, the address and extended event details will be on the back of the invite.

Front: event, date, time of each section of the day, location names

Back: location with full address, alternative RSVP methods, website URL, contact info for questions/ueries.

Inserts: RSVP postcard (our postie is lovely so is likely to be uber careful with them if he can easily identify that they're RSVPs)

Thanks for the input! I think I'll put the online RSVP information and the wedding website details on the back. We are just going to do online RSVP and then just RSVP for our grandparents. It's crazy how caught up I get in these minor details.

I put our website on the STDs, and am putting it in small font on the back of the invitation - mainly b/c some people may be inclined to RSVP on the web, and if they lose the STD, they'll probably flip the invitation over to see if it's there again, if they forgot to write it down the first time.

I wouldn't put it on the FRONT side, and under no circumstances would I list the registry info - but basic wedding info on the back side, i don't think is etiquette-inappropriate.

Just be prepared that no matter where you put it, people may not see it or use it.

We put our wedding website on the STDs, on the invitation itself and on the RSVP card ... and the MAJORITY of our guests have no idea we even have a website ... which means they have no idea about parking, the option of dressing up for 1920s, or know where we are registered.

It blows my mind that so many people didn't see this on ANY of the locations ... or just chose not to use it.

Some people might miss is (I probably would), but I don't think it's the end of the world. Most people will probably see it!
