Pushing back the Wedding

Samantha, on March 30, 2019 at 4:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
I am so upse and frustrated. Long story short we had our wedding planned for May 16th 2020 but we just recently moved across state. My fiance had a job all lined up here so we didn't think it would be a big deal FALSE they gave the job to someone else so now we are both looking for jobs and it's not going as smoothly as we thought. We are are having to dip into the wedding fund and it's making us push back our date so we have time to save money again. So now we are planning for September 27th 2020 which is fine. It's our actual dating anniversary so it makes it a little more special but I just want to get married already!!! I'm fine with eloping but he it totally against it.
Anybody else have to push back the wedding?
How did you deal with it?
What did you tell people?

Ours was pushed back from Fall 2018 to June 2019. It was before we sent any save the dates, so we didn’t really have to explain to anyone. Ours was because FHs brother plays college football, and we had to avoid scheduling a weekend he could potentially have a big game. Obviously they don’t release the schedules a year and a half out...so we had to avoid the whole season. The only people I had to explain this to were my family who aren’t big sports fans. I was honestly very upset about pushing it back at first. However, it’s given us much more time to save and plan. Also, we will now both be done with grad school before the wedding so we can celebrate that as well (and not have to worry about homework).

I think the key to dealing with it is to find the positive side. You’ll now have the time to save more and stabilize financially before planning a big event. And now the day will be a date that means more to you anyway. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. If they ask, simply say “We decided it would work better if we pushed the date back, we look forward to celebrating with you then!”

I pushed our wedding back our orginal wedding date was labor day weekend 2019. However I got sick and was hospitalized the beginning of the year so that lead to a realistic decision that our wedding date needed to be pushed back. I always wanted a Christmas wedding however. I realized most people focus on family for the holidays. So I chose our anniversary date January 2020 .Yes our anniversary it makes it more special. The first thing I did was contact my vendors to see if they had availability for our new date. Thankfully they did, I hadn't sent out any STD yet. So it all worked out. Contact your vendors and your ott guest ASAP!!!

We pushed our date back. It was originally 10/26/19 and our new date is 2/29/20. We actually had an issue with our previous venue and had to break the contract. My mom was calling and tell everyone of the October date and I had to apologize to everyone and let them know of the new date. First, I called all of my vendors to make sure they were available (they were!!). And I had a few family members that were upset because they are coming from the north and February is very inconvenient for them because they may get snowed in, but I honestly could care less if they showed up (they are family members who only come around for events or when they need something from you, other than that you never see or hear from them). I would have loved to elope but my sister did 10 years ago and my dad really wants to walk a daughter down the aisle. February is considered an off season month so we are saving thousands (literally). At first I was upset we had to push the wedding back because I just want to get it over with and be married already lol. But, it also works out because I'm in my final semester for my masters program and can focus more on the wedding after graduation. Also, our bridal party and our family who are already in GA are fine with the change. And 2/29 was FH late grandparents wedding anniversary, so we are keeping a tradition going.

If invitations haven't gone out yet, I think it's fine. Our date is summer 2020 too and moved around a lot before we put down a deposit. I think you're bound to have great weather for either and people will be happy to see you two get married regardless of the date. Life gets busy, people will get it! I hope things work out with the job hunt. Good luck Smiley smile

Job lined up? Did he have a firm offer letter? We pushed ours back to spring 2020 because we live 100 miles apart (we dated for three years and lived in the same city before I moved away) and my S/O decided last month that he wants to work at his job for 1 more year before transferring to my city. I handled it well because I was actually relieved 😌 I had no interest in doing a semi-long distance marriage with him. When others asked, I told them that we pushed it back because my mom is traveling to Europe the same month of our original wedding date and it was just too much on her (which was another factor as to why we postponed it).

We had set a wedding date of August 17, 2019. But then my dad got really sick, I got sick and was off work for a month, then both FH and I changed jobs, leaving some gaps in our paychecks for awhile. Financially, we were never going to have enough money for the wedding we wanted. My dad was slated for a lung transplant, so everything else kind of got pushed to the back burner.

Once the dust settled, we figured out how much more time we would need, and settled on a new wedding date of May 30, 2020, which is our dating anniversary! So, that part worked out better for us.

Don't feel bad about needing to postpone your date. Life happens, and it sometimes gets in the way of these kinds of plans. Also, if we had realized how much weddings cost before we set our original date, I think we would have set one farther out anyway. The sticker shock made us realize that we needed more time to save. But that has given me more time to plan also, and a more relaxed feeling about the whole thing, not so rushed. So, it was a blessing in disguise for sure.

Our wedding was pushed back from
Novemeber 2019 to January 2020. I understand the feeling of wanting to just get it over with but the wait is truly worth it. I felt the same way. However now that we have pushed it back I can relax a little more and really plan financially
